A Great Read!, January 21, 2013
Through the eyes of the author we take a journey through her own spiritual awakening. Most of us have had some sort of awakening at a point in our life and I found it extremely interesting to compare the author's experiences with my own. Though our backgrounds are very different there are so many feelings and insights that we have in common, many common beliefs! This book will help you recall many precious things that our busy days sometimes make us forget. I highly recommend this book!!
From the Author
The reason I wrote this book was to take the reader on a journey to view my personal life and to reveal my experience of faith. This memoir connects each chapter with common stories and supernatural events that I experienced from childhood through adulthood.
The topics I included go from my doubts and questions as a teenager, my studies, travels, engagement, motherhood, parenting skills, aging, and dying matters.
It took me three years to put together the manuscript of this book, and only three months for the editing and publishing process thanks to the Writer's group of Morningside Library who helped me go through the excitement of making this project public.
The writing process was a healing encounter. I realized how important it is to examine life and wipe away any past incidents or forgive a person you need to apology.
The future of Hazel Eyes is to have a Spanish version and the profit from this book is used to promote World Peace.

Maritza Mejia is a great observer and certainly has the potential to record the tiniest details of her surroundings and the events that occur in them. However, to the satisfaction of the reader, Maritza also has the ability to close an episode and open a new one quickly, keeping the fluidity of the narrative and a continuous entertainment.
Two things that impress me deeply in this novel are: first, the remarkable humbleness of the author, which can't be better portrayed than by the following passage: "I do not consider myself a writer, but the author of several works." Let me correct you, Maritza: You're a writer and a very good one. Second, the uncanny promise that she makes to the Virgin (Hazel Eyes), "I will make you laugh." So much nobleness and simplicity are needed to put feelings of religious devotion in such terms!
In short, "Hazel Eyes" is a very well-written, entertaining book that can make atheists feel a bit embarrassed, or at least make us feel that we are really missing out a magnificent treasure. Surely, a testimony of faith powerful enough to convert to faith many potential readers.
