"Thank you so much for touching my heart and my life today."

"These devotions hit on subjects most are afraid to touch." --Christian Devotions Ministries

From the Author

A few words about He Said, She Said and why we picked the topics for this book. We teach at a number of writers' conferences and hear stories from hundreds of authors. A few years ago we heard the same theme at each event: betrayal and brokenness in marriage. What surprised us was the number of stories from wives of former pastors. In each instance the women seemed shocked to find (too late) their husbands attracted to other women, addicted to porn, or still in contact with old girlfriends. In this book you will find several short devotions on mental infidelity and the allure of sexual sin. This is by design. We want men and women to know they are not alone in their struggle to remain faithful. In fact, Abraham, David, and Solomon all slept with other women and paid a price. If your marriage and mate are perfect, great. This book probably isn't for you. But if just one wife reads these short devotions and asks: "Honey, are you attracted to other women?" and receives an honest answer that saves her marriage, this book has served its purpose. Just know, we are not deep theological thinkers but a couple of sinners saved by grace who happen to find God in everyday events. ~ Eddie and Cindy

Recently I began my search for a daily devotional for my husband and me to use which focused on our marriage relationship. I read the reviews of all the ones available for kindle and decided on this one. The price was right for an experiment and the reviews were astounding. Honestly, however, my husband and I have not enjoyed this devotional one bit. The He Said writer, Eddie Jones, enjoys the shock factor way too much. His devotionals are more distracting than helpful. For a Christian writer to admit that he still sleeps with women in his head, leaves one speechless. I find the material in each devotional very disjointed. Since the writers are not married to one another their writing lacks coherency. The devotionals don't elaborate very well on the verses but are loosely connected and the building block quotes don't connect at all. I was hoping that the devotionals would naturally lead to some discussion but after we read them we really have to dig to find something worthy of discussing. I don't recommend this devotional at all. After many attempts to keep on reading this devotional we finally had to stop since the material was just too outrageous.

What an awesome devotional! I loved every page. Some chapters had me welling up with tears while others made me giggle out loud but all of them made me think and reflect upon God's sweet, gentle, awesome love for us. What a brilliant concept to view both sides of the same coin from the male and female viewpoint. I was especially touched by all the personal anecdotes that not only lent a genuine human quality to every topic but allowed me to share in the trials and triumphs of the authors. This is a devotional not for the "super Christian" but us regular rank and file humans slogging our way through life as best we can while striving to keep our faith intact and on an upward track. What a gem.

He Said, She Said is an awesome Devotional that allows for both male and female perspectives. In each devotion, not only do you hear both perspectives but there is a prayer and a "building block of Faith" which is a quote that is encouraging on the topic shared. The devotional topics are:
Loving One Another
Loving Your Kids
Loving Your Work
Loving Your Church

He Said, She Said is wonderful in that, it brings up topics that will allow for great discussions and I LOVE the humor the Authors share!! Not only is this book excellent for your own marriage but it would be an awesome tool if you mentor couples who need some guidance or even with those who are newly engaged! Learning to Communicate is sooo very important and sometimes people just need someone to help open a door !! This book is definitely one that will do just that!

Thanks CFBA for providing a complimentary E-book in exchange for my honest opinion!

Happy Reading!

Couldn't get past the first few pages, which included the use of "titled" for "tilted," "rein" for "reign," and a rambling diatribe, purporting to be God's voice directed to an unhappy married person. Not only do I find it off-putting when authors presume to put words in God's mouth, but it seemed painfully obvious that the authors did not consider the perspective of the spouse who is regularly subjected to verbal, emotional, or physical assault. Must give this a pass.

Eddie Jones and Cindy Sproles focus on one verse of Scripture a day. Focusing on that verse and using "he" and "she" points of view, they cover heart break, parenting, loss of loved ones, etc. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, whether one is married or single, Eddie Jones and Cindy Sproles words of wisdom make He Said/She Said a book worth reading.

It helps to know others have gone through the same trials. Better still is finding oneself drawn closer to God as you read through the devotions.

He Said, She Said [Lighthouse Publishing (February 14, 2011)] by Eddie Jones and Cindy Sproles is a devotional for couples, an aide to draw them closer to God and to one another. And, it's wonderful! The writing is heartfelt and honest, and at times funny; the topics relevant; and the his and her discussions thought-provoking. Starting with the first line of the very first He Said, "Love is a four-letter word and that word is 'work,'" the wisdom contained within these pages is something that every Christian couple, whether dating, recently married, or celebrating their silver wedding anniversary should read. It is a reminder of what a marriage is, or should be, once the giddiness, the infatuation, and the lust diminish and the daily-grind takes over.

Each devotion of "story" consists of a passage of scripture, a well-constructed real-life application, a prayer, and a "Building Blocks of Faith:" a witty quote that will leave you with a smile and something to think about throughout the day.

There is no right or wrong way to use He Said, She Said. The authors don't lay out a recipe for devotion or study. Instead, they present the reader, or readers, with 54 stories, each one capable of standing on its own as a devotion for male or female, although each is also labeled as "He Said" or "She Said" to make clear the writer's perspective. Read He Said, She Said together with your significant other, or on your own. Either way, it's wisdom is sure to help you in your relationships, all of your relationships, whether with your spouse, your children, or your parents.

I received this book from the author (through the CFBA) free for the purpose of reviewing it. I received no other compensation for this review. The opinions expressed in this review are my honest opinions. Your experience may vary.
