I hesitated to buy this because of some reviews saying it fell off... these people didn't tighten it enough with the supplied allen wrench. Trust me, you spent all this money on an Aeron chair... you need this. I kinda thought maybe I didn't because wouldn't Herman Miller supply this or at least sell it if it made that much of a difference?

Bottom line is now that my Herman Miller chair has this headrest... I could never go back. So much more comfortable.

And don't listen to the reviews saying it's not adjustable? I don't know what they are talking about. Both my wife and I can find completely comfortable positions with this head rest.

ONLY COMPLAINT... the price... should be closer to $99 than $150. But it's still worth it if you use your chair a lot.

UPDATE: After using this chair for a week... I can see now what people were complaining about in regards to the headrest moving and not LOCKING in place. It locks decently front to back, but up and down there is no way to tighten the hinges. EASY FIX: On each side (of both the base and headrest hinges... YOU WILL SEE black caps. Pop them out with something super thin (I used tweezers).... then use a Phillips/Allen wrench (the one that came with it) to tighten up the hinges to your liking. I just did this wind it doesn't move unless I grab it with both hands and force it.

This matches my Aeron nicely, but there are a few things I'm not crazy about. First, it's just too expensive. I didn't return it in the end, but maybe I should have. I didn't find any other headrests I liked better online, so I just stuck with this. I just don't think its worth the price, especially given my second gripe. The other thing I don't like about this is that it's not wide enough. You only rest your head on this thing if you're sitting perfectly straight. Now granted, I know that you're not supposed to slouch in an Aeron, but lets face it, we do sometimes. And when I do lean to one side, I end up resting my head on the very edge of the headrest, which is an inch of hard plastic in the back of my skull. Not very comfortable.

When used properly, I like this thing a lot. It does a great job of supporting my head and neck, and is very adjustable.

Some of the other reviews claim that they had problems adjusting it, but I don't have any. I often readjust its position depending on how I'm sitting, and that works well for me. Not much fuss, and I always get it to where I want it. I did need to tighten up the screws in back to keep a decent amount of tension on the hinges, but I have no problems with that. It wasn't hard to do, and I'd consider that maintenance more than anything else.

The only other thing I've noticed is that it doesn't really seem to fit perfectly on the top of my chair. There's a gap between the top of the chair and the bottom of the headrests' foot. I've posted a picture of it. For the price, I feel like this should be perfect, and I didn't like that. It doesn't move though, so as long as you tighten the screw on the bottom enough to fix it into place, this shouldn't be anything more than a cosmetic issue.

Overall, this gets a rating of "Okay" from me.

This is EXACTLY perfect and what I was searching for. The HR-04 delivers on all product points —Comfort, support, quality construction, and infinitely adjustable. I have a grey aeron (largest available) and it fits perfectly. I couldn't care less about the color mismatch because, like anyone who actually needs one, I spend most of my time in the chair and NOT marveling over it's beauty from across the room. I am 6'2", 300 pounds of a muscle'in man and when I'm not involved in death matches I'm perched in my, now complete, perfectly comfortable aeron/EN combo whilst illustrating, animating, editing, drawing, watching pornography... er, watching films and telly with my feet up. I love love love this. I know the price seems high, and it is, but c'mon you just spent 12 hundy on a chair so I know this is no stretch!

I got this as a christmas gift and just recently installed it on my aeron chair (which is a large for what it's worth).

Installation was easy, took a couple minutes is all.

I'm 6'4" and this definitely supports my neck just fine in the large aeron chair. There are several pivot points in the head rest so it's easy to find the right position.

My only grief with this product is that there is only one lock for the main pivot joint in the head rest. This head rest has two more pivot/sliding points which do not have an external mechanism to lock them into place. I find myself adjusting the head rest quite frequently if I stretch my arms or lean back in the chair.

Now granted, I'd rather deal with these issues than have no head rest at all but there's room for a lot of improvement especially at the price point its currently at.

Befor receiving this headrest I was very skeptical about the value of this headrest. The price seemed exorbitant but I was intrigued because of the good reviews and the apparent adjustability of the the headrest. I figured that I would have nothing to lose by trying one given Amazon's great customer service and dedication to customer satisfaction, if it didn't work out I could return it. I was to be very pleasantly surprised.

Upon receiving the unit I found it very easy to center and install. The position adjustments (2 swivel points and 1 height adjustment) for the headrest are great. There are two pivot points and one elevation adjustment. By combining these 3 adjustments in various settings it is relatively easy to find comfortable settings for different purposes. For example, by using the lowest pivot the headrest can be moved forward to meet your head or neck while sitting upright while computing, etc. For a more laid back setting while reclining the lower pivot can be used to pull the headrest rearward. The other two adjustments can make compensatory adjustments to keep the headrest at a comfortable angle.

I must say the designer of this unit hit it out of the park as I can get adjustments for any purpose sitting upright or reclining. The appearance matches the chair perfectly and makes the chair look more complete, modern and exotic. The build quality of the headrest is equal to the build quality of the Aeron Chair itself. This is the missing link that kept me from getting the greatest possible comfort and enjoyment from my Aeron Chair. I am well into my tenth year of owning my chair and I have enjoyed the chair itself from day one. I suffer from spondylolisthesis at L5 (bad lower back) and this chair has been a real benefit for my back.
