Jewel 22, is overbearing, paranoid, controlling, always in fear where she makes her younger siblings live her fears. Her only surviving brother is 15, her sisters are 13 and 10, and she thinks they can’t do anything by them selves and her brother is not caring about his responsibilities and he’s brooding. They lost theIr father in a drowning accident and their oldest brother was killed in Afghanistan by a sniper with in 2 years apart, over 4 years ago.
Nate, he been living with survivors guilt for sending his best friend on a supply run which Rick was killed, 4 years later, Nate’s home to stay but seeing Jewel and his regret is too much. But he needs to confess his love, his demons and his feelings to Jewel but is he willing to lose the only women that held his heart for many years?
Jewel Fisher could never be his… Nate Braden has loved her and wanted her for years but she was younger and also the sister of his best friend, Rick. Those two things alone were enough to keep him from pursuing her but now that Rick is gone, he is even more determined to not move ahead with his feelings.
Nate came home from the war, but Rick did not and survivor’s guilt wracks Nate’s soul. He was the officer who sent Rick on his last mission and he cannot forget that.
Jewel’s life centers on her family… taking care of all the details of her younger siblings lives in order to help out her mother. She does not have time for romance or a boyfriend… but if she did, Nate would be the one for her. A schoolgirl crush has grown into so much more now that she is an adult and Nate is back in town.
But they share the sorrow of losing Rick and that is a barrier between them. Bit by bit their walls begin to crumble and their souls are healed. Can they find love at last? “Healed by Love” is just what is says… their souls were made whole again by love.
I have read this book and also listened to the audio version. BJ Harrison is a talented narrator who is able to draw his listeners into the story. I enjoyed the audio version as much as I did reading the book. Either way... it is worth the time.
Jewel Fisher has lost two men in her life.....a father that drown and a brother, Rick, killed by a sniper while serving in Afghanistan. Nate Braden was Rick's best friend and has been carrying a heavy burden because he sent his friend on a routine supply run that resulted in his death. After serving two more years, Nate finally came home to find out if he will be staying in Peaceful Harbor or leaving once he speaks with Rick's mom and his sister, Jewel, who captured his hearts years ago. Jewel has issues of her own when it comes to holding her loved ones too close for fear of anything happening to them. This is a great story which is a must read to find out if these two will finally come together or if the circumstances of Rick's death will end the love that Jewel and Nate have for one another.

Jewel has had to grow up pretty fast because her dad died and later her brother who served in the forces, died in action. She has to help her mother with her younger brother and sisters and it’s hard on her.
Nate served with Rick, Jewel’s brother. He carries a secret about the day that Rick died and it’s stopping him from going after the one thing he truly wants, Jewel. He has been in love with her for a long time but never even thought about going near her because of Rick but now he’s home and things between them are increasing.
It’s a really great book and I’ve loved reading many books from Melissa Foster. Her characters are always appealing and great to read about. A very good book.
You are captivated from the first chapter and because of the nature of the storyline you feel the underlying sadness building very quickly and for anyone who can really relate to this situation it must be heartbreaking.
Nate and Jewel's story certainly pulls at your heartstrings, their love for each other was so obvious but Nate was carrying around a lot of guilt over Rick's death which he needed to overcome but it didn't help matters when he confessed to Jewel he thought he was to blame.
Of course things didn't go well, Jewel then blamed Nate so their relationship took a few steps back but Nate persevered and Jewel eventually came to her scenes's but in between it all there were so many touching and sad moments the scenes at the cemetery and the letters really gets to you, it totally consumes you, it all felt very real.
This is a story that captures so many different feelings and emotions you can't help but be moved by it and again this Author has delivered..!!
I love Melissa Foster's words of wisdom, you know all the little quotes that usually comes from one of the parents or siblings, it's something she does very well in every book, it's a message she gets across, it's brilliant.
This is Nate's story, a returning war hero having served his military career in Afghanistan. He joined with his best friend Rick Fisher but unfortunately Rick didn't make it back. Nate is burden with grief for the loss of his best friend, survivors guilt and the fact that he made a promise to his friend that he just doesn't know how he can fulfil.
Jewel is Rick's younger sister by 5 years. She has lost so much in her young life, her father and then 6 short years later her brother. Jewel assumes a parental role of her younger siblings despite her mother telling her she can manage and she needs to live her own life. But Jewel is so protective of her family that she can't seem to relinquish the carer role.
Nate has been home a week when he meets Jewel again, she has had an accident whilst trail walking and he is her knight in shinning armour when he rescues her on the dark trail. The chemistry between the two is evident but with Nate's guilt he cannot see a way to act on this, despite the fact that he has loved Jewel for so many years. Can the two find a way to conquer their fears and find the love that will heal both their hearts?
This book had me hooked from chapter one, I rode the rollercoaster of emotions with Nate and shed more than one or two tears, keep the tissues close by. This is such an emotional read as Melissa Foster uncovers the back story of the two main characters.
I'm sure you will fall in love with this story as much as I did.
Nate was in love with Jewel for so long and when he comes home he is not sure it's going to work with her brother death over his head.
Jewel runs a tight ship trying to make sure the kids are ok but learns that they really don't have a life they would like.
Now he's back from the forces and is tormented by his best friends death and the fact he's in love with his sister little sister...
I cried, laughed and my heart broke and then I cried some more... I love how real Melissa's stories are, I love getting lost in her world.. Another amazing addition to the Love in bloom series!!
