Fibromyalgia is real. The pain you awaken with is not in your head. You're not even remotely a hypochondriac. If anyone--doctor, chiropractor, physical therapist, well- meaning loved one--ever tries to convince you otherwise, tune them out.

They are wrong.

Likewise, if anyone ever tells you fibro is incurable and you'll just have to learn to live with it, understand they're seriously misinformed.

You may even be able to fix your fibromyalgia on your own, without doctors and without drugs. This book will tell you how.

So begins author David Edelberg, MD, an internist specializing in fibromyalgia, in his long-awaited book Healing Fibromyalgia. Dr Edelberg has treated 1,600+ women with fibro using the plan presented here, including step-by-step instructions for Dr E's Six-Week Nearly Natural Fibro Cure.

In clear, reassuring language, Dr E explains how with fibro your whole self--the mind and body totality that makes you you--is under protective siege, your body trying desperately to guard itself from the assault of multiple sources of stress.

Envision your muscles tightening up and creating a protective suit of armor. That's fibro in a nutshell. Your muscles aren't sick or inflamed, but they're definitely tired of being locked up like this, trying to protect you and making you utterly exhausted in the process. Ironically, if your muscles could talk, they'd probably say, Look, lady, we're just doing our job. We got this message from you that we're under serious stress. This tightening-up is what muscles do.

Statistics prove it: Some 10 to 14 million Americans currently fulfill the diagnostic criteria for fibro and 80-90% of that group are undiagnosed.

Than means more American women have fibromyalgia than diabetes.

Wait, you think. Am I hearing this right? Is Dr E saying that the 12 million American women with fibro are so stressed that they're engaged in a 24/7 painful muscle lock-up of self protection and self preservation?

That's exactly what he's saying.

Don't live with fibromyalgia a single day longer than necessary. Whether your fibro responds to the Nearly Natural Cure or you need a little extra help from prescription drugs, this plan will help resolve your painful fibromyalgia forever.

Also includes: Dr E's precise (and invaluable) fibro drug dosing instructions are radically different from what your own doctor might recommend and they increase your chances of success. Your doctor doesn't believe in fibro? The book provides expert advice on finding one who will take your condition seriously.

As a bonus, Healing Fibromyalgia includes the Physician's Guide to Fibromyalgia, including Dr E''s complete treatment protocols. If your stubborn fibro requires prescription drugs, print out the guide and hand it to your physician. Don't go it alone.

With this book and the Dr E's physician's guide in hand, you and your doctor will become an educated team in resolving your fibro.

Includes:

  • How Do I Know If I Have Fibro? Take the Quiz
  • How to Classify Your Fibro Severity
  • Memories in Your Muscles
  • Tests Every Fibro Patient Should Know About
  • Dr E’s Six-Week Nearly Natural Fibro Cure

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2004. Early on, the symptoms were mild but they have worsened over the years and, some days, I am pretty much immobilized by the pain/discomfort. This book has provided me with new insights and hope that I can overcome the pain. I will say, however, that the success of the treatments the authors of the book suggest would be dependent on having an open-minded and knowledgeable physician who's willing to work with you. I have not discussed the book with my own helpful and caring doctor yet.

Dr. Edelberg comprehensively shares his many years of experience treating Fibromyalgia patients. He presents background explanations and solutions using both Eastern and Western medicine. After reading the book one feels incredibly knowledgeable and much more prepared to tackle this difficult syndrome. It is a valuable addition to the literature on Fibromyalgia.

I have read many books on fibromyalgia over the course of a year and would consider this book to be a must read for those diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Dr. Edelberg provides a detailed explanation of fibromyalgia, it's causes, and provides very obtainable solutions!

I was tired of reading book after book telling me how I could cope! I was searching for a book that could help me to seriously reduce my daily pain and fatigue! After reading his book I felt empowered, optimistic and full of renewed hope. I have implemented many of his techniques and can tell you that I am steadily improving every day! This book is a must read for those who want to drastically reduce or even eliminate their symptoms altogether. Thank you Dr. Edelberg for putting me on the correct path!

I have been on the proverbial hunt for documents, books, anything that might lend a hand or explain what can be done for US (the pained, but striving to still take command of our days). This is an awe-inspiring book. I thought I'd been "enjoying" life a long time with Fibromyalgia. This opens up eyes, and gives me understanding of so much. Even the serotonin/estrogen factors. A must read along with "The Fibro Manual" by Dr. Ginevra Liptan.
I appreciate both works immensely..

I really liked the book. But it was a little hard to read. It has good information in it that is useful, but it really needs some summary charts or pages that you can focus on. I felt like it was a good place to start, but would of liked something more concise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very comprehensive and more focused than most books

Having lived with fibromyalgia for 8 years, read the majority of books out there, experimented with a lot of the suggested drugs, supplements, treatments, healing plans ... this book continues to be one of the most helpful ones for me because it is pretty thorough but succinct (e.g. including personal stories but not too much), communicating the author's many years of experience with fibromyalgia patients. It offers a detailed, holistic plan of action that is pretty focused and seems more comprehensive than most I know. The plan includes a suggestion of supplements, which is shorter than what you find in many other alternative therapy guides for fibromyalgia (i.e. more manageable and more affordable) and concentrates on what might help you most to ease symptoms and minimize or avoid prescription drugs.

Like other plans of actions this one might not be 100% suitable for everybody (personally, I found the various supplements to increase serotonin levels and improve adrenal gland activity not helpful -- apparently that's not what my body needs) and there is the challenge of how to gauge what works for you if you implement comprehensive changes all at once. Personally, I prefer introducing 1-2 new strategies (bodywork, supplements, different diet, etc.) at a time and track their effects over six weeks before dropping and/or adding a strategy.

Most of the information compiled in this book, and updates, are available from the website of the holistic clinic founded by the author: http://www.wholehealthchicago.com/knowledge-base/ > click on F and then on the Fibromyalgia-related entries you are interested in.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Truth Hurts

This is rapidly becoming a difficult title to find which is a real shame as it is well written & effective.
My wife suffers from FM & after she had shown me a handout that Dr.Edelberg had sent out to GP's I felt I had to order her the whole book.

In it he helps by offering simple but effective aids to reducing the effects of FM. No 'quick cures' or miracle vitamins just sound advice.
Diet & exercise are addressed but where this book really hits home is the psychological triggers that have, over years & often decades, brought about the condition. It doesn't apply to everyone but it absolutely makes sense & the deep seated causes that lie dormant for so long before expressing themselves as FM seem so obvious once you read this.

Needless to say the truth is not always comfortable reading & calls for some readjustment not only by the sufferer but possibly also by their loved ones.

No new age mumbo jumbo or 'latest fad' this offers simple solutions & shines a clear light of common sense upon a subject that the vast majority of GP's seem either unwilling or unable to take seriously. I wonder how many sufferers, often women, are being left to cope with life affecting pain with little or no support. Often with the faint whiff of disapproval & disbelief from workmates, employers, health practitioners & sometimes even family.

What a relief to read a sympathetic & educated approach that shows sufferers how to reduce pain & begin to understand quite what it is they can do & why they feel like they do.
If you have Fibromyalgia or know someone close who does then this is pretty much essential reading. It won't bring about complete recovery, nothing is likely to do that, but what a comfort to have a light shone into the darkness that descends with the onset of this much derided & dismissed yet terribly debilitating illness.

Fabulous book. Should be read by all General Practitioners which in turn prevent sufferers going through long diagnosis periods and a stressful search for their own answers. Written by a very knowledgeable American doctor with years of experience in this field. His plan for maintenance and repair (not cure) has assisted me to understand how to control my pain using a holistic approach to Fibromyalgia syndrome and not just using pharmaceutical drugs which can have devastating side effects. Prescribed drugs can eventually be minimised using a cocktail of vitamins, minerals and supplements. Wonderful and refreshing read by a doctor who is obviously passionate about his subject.
