Healing Inc. is my first book. I had fun with this as the characters came to life and basically dictated how the story would be told. I hope you like it.
About the Author
Deneice Tarbox was raised in Massachusetts. Two years into college she decided to do a stint in the armed forces where she continued to develop her warped sense of humor. Bravery or love (not sure which yet) landed her in Maine where she happily resides with her husband and adult dog. She currently works in healthcare but decided it was time to delve back into her passion for writing. Her mottos: Normal is boring and Laugh or wear a straitjacket.

Looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
i hope you keep suprising us Ms. Deneice because frankly i cannot wait to read and hear more from you!!
I can be very critical of authors with a lot of senseless mistakes such as spelling and grammar. Those basic mistakes can really take away from a story when the reader is trying to decipher what the heck is going on in a story you are trying to read. Well, Mrs. Tarbox's stories are truly a breath of fresh air for readers out there. The author is now in my top list of IR authors because she really took the time and hired an editor and gives reader well thought out stories. This really shows in her work and her characters were developed beautifully. Even the secondary characters have a spotlight but do not overpower the main characters.
Evy and Tyler were written well and you were rooting for them to succeed. That is a sign of a great writer. Hat's off to you Mrs. Tarbox! You have a new fan!!
To my fellow readers...you will not be disappointed in the writings of Deneice Tarbox. Give her a chance and you will enjoy!
This is one of the better stories in this genre. Unfortunately it ended much too soon and on a disappointing note. . There was a really great story line, well drawn characters and that wonderful mix of a romance and police procedural that kept me interested for the first two thirds of the book Then there was the very sloppy and fake ending that messed up everything.
Tyler and Evy are a couple of people who have survived horrific abuse in childhood and young adult hood to become whole and functioning adults. Now in their late thirties and early forties they have found a way to move forward with their lives to become successful and to give back to their communities. What each lack is that special soul completing love that each of them craves but, due to lingering ghosts from their respective past and current circumstances has eluded them.
Both of these characters meet and gradually find happiness with each other even as their past continues to intrude. The hesitancy with which their relationship blossoms into love is realistic, tender and I enjoyed reading those scenes.
I enjoyed the secondary characters as well. They added much to the story line in explaining why Evy acted in the ways that she did and they reflected just how dangerous her situation continued to be. As Tyler became more involved with her it would be on him to now take the primary role of protecting Evy from her past. Fortunately Tyler was committed to doing just that and had to resources needed to indeed fulfill that role. Evy would give Tyler the love, support and emotional security that he needs but has never had.
It would have been a better story if more were made of Tyler's demons and Evy's support of him as he revealed his past abuse. There was a hint of that during some of the sex scenes between the couple but it was glossed over too quickly IMO. Better to have explored why Tyler rejected some of Evy's sexual advances and why he rebuffed her attempts at certain sex acts with him. A few scenes with him laying in her arms as he explained the pain of his past would have been a better way to handle this. Her slowly reintroducing those acts to him, claiming them as their own as she expressed her love to him would have been beautiful to read but we got none of that. As it is in the book Tyler kept giving to Evy with little reciprocation on her part. This in my opinion is unrealistic for a woman like Evy given the organization she created. A man like Tyler with his past was tailor made for her and this opportunity was missed by the writer.
Where this story completely falls flat is the police investigation part of the book and it is here that the book earns the three stars I am giving it. The set up of the crime was perfect, the trial and aftermath offered so much material to take this book to the next level but none of it was mined for what it could have added this story. The same care that was taken to create the love story between Tyler and Evy should have been spent here as well. I found my self wanting to know what was going to happen next? What had happened in the past and why? What are the bad guys going to do? Who is behind Evy's continued danger? Why was the investigation re-opened in the first place? Those questions were given short shrift and it was as if the writer got tired of writing the book or had a limited about of words or time to finish so she came up with a pat and very unrealistic and quite frankly unsatisfying ending.
There was enough meat in this story that I found it a shame that the writer felt the need to rush. In the end the who and why behind Evy's troubles was silly, the rescue insulted my intelligence as a reader and was a disappointment given how well the book started out. Finally Tyler's participation in the comeuppances of villain was most troubling. The writer did not and should not have gone there in my opinion since Tyler's uncle had enough grounds to take care of that himself with out involving his nephew. A nephew by the way who avoided all dealing with that branch of the family and only turned to them for assistance when circumstances threatened Evy. Healing Inc was in the end a missed opportunity.
Check it out! You will not be disappointed!
