is one of my favorite things to do making the author's approach intriguing.

For me it was both encouraging and inspired to hear that the process of moving outdoors and walking among trees (whether in town or in the forest) helped her and in many cases also helped her clients move forward in their physical healing and therapy sessions.

A must read in my view ...

What struck me from the beginning of Susan's struggle with her disability was her courage. Imagine breaking out of the confines of the four walls of the sacrosanct consulting room and walking with her clients outside, in the world, in the woods, in the parks, along the streams. "Out there," they began to experience something profound together, something utterly unexpected: the possibility of the conscious participation in nature making healing with nature possible. As a poet and writer Susan had to write the compelling stories not only of her own healing but the healing of her clients. In this way, the book itself becomes a healing experience, as I was to discover myself when I read it again when my own back was disabling me. Psychotherapy, of course, changes with glacial slowness, but psychotherapy in the future may not be confined to the small enclosed shutoff spaces we call offices, but the world itself as office. If so, Susan Scott's Healing With Nature has broken new ground, leading the way. This book will open your eyes to new ways of seeing yourself and yourself in nature; it will touch your own heart in ways that will surprise you, most of all, sparking courage to change in the face of adversity.

The Instinct to Heal

At its core, Healing With Nature is a book about trust. Within every injury, there is an instinct for healing, a tropism toward life. Susan Scott leads us on a journey of restoration, engaging us with stories of adaptation and growth in the face of life's "obstacles." Just as trees find a way to turn to the light, she shows the reader how to trust the inherent wisdom of body and mind to incorporate change, even when painful, and thrive in a redirected life. By looking to Nature, we are reminded that we are not alone, no matter how difficult the journey might be.

Your walks-in-the-woods will take on an entirely new dimension. The author shares her keen observations of the wide array of botanical tropisms (photo, geo and hydro) and relates these miracles to our own abilities to adapt and heal. "Healing with Nature" is a fascinating read.

well worth the read

Excellent read for anyone including themselves with the wonder of nature. This is not your ordinary therapy book. Healing with Nature involves us with who we are and how our natural surroundings can and will help us heal if only we take the time and effort to let it.

Connecting

I was surprised and delighted at the depth of the author's observations. The writing style brings the reader into an honest and insightful connection with others and nature, especially trees.The reader feels part of the experience. After several chapters,I am curious why other therapists do not utilize this method of healing more often than not. Nature offers a safe and trusting environment for us to surrender our inner fears.
