I bought Lintermans book merely to validate my own thoughts and principles. Much to my surprise her research, personal interviews and creativity not only validated my feelings about "dating" after my loss but expanded my views on the whole proposition of building a new, and I might add, exciting relationship. So to my friends and family I now say "believe it or not" I have a new and loving person in my life and it's O.K.!

One of the many steps to recovery after the death of a spouse is recognizing some of the positives the future may hold. For some, this may include the possibility of one day forming a new love relationship. This book takes the reader through twelve real-life stories of people who did just that. Each story includes the perspectives of the two partners and that of the authors, and deals with issues of fear, accommodating ongoing love and grief for the deceased spouse, creating a working format for a new relationship, and coming to enjoy a new phase of life. There's no panacea for the pain of losing a spouse, but perhaps the most important message in this book is that, when it becomes possible again, it's wise to live in the present and to be open to new sources of fulfillment.

Well, the contents of the book I am still reading & it is a very good book for someone that is the "New love", such as I. However, I purchased this book as 'Near New' & paid a price to go with that. But the book it self is in my opinion mis-advertised by 100%. The book was obviously being read by someone that was a bit of a pig. On every page on the side of the book, it is covered an inch down from the top with food stuffs & the last 17 pgs. have fingerprints in the same brownish, smudged 'ICKYNESS'. I nearly refused to touch the book in fear of what else I may find in the book other then whats suppose to be in it. Along with the brown ick, the last 28 pages are turned under & creased, as if it had been dropped & that corner hit first. The only good thing I can say other then it is a very useful book is that it did get to me in good time & packaged fairly well, considering it's FARE from being close to "near new" advertising. I'm very disappoint & unhappy with this seller & won't use them again. SF

I found this book depressing. Maybe it's too soon after I've lost my beloved, but the people profiled in this book seem to have settled for poor matches or have hooked up with people who brought a ton of baggage and family drama with them. Maybe that's just the way it is, but if that's my future then I have every reason to be even more hopeless than I was before I read the book.

THE HEALING POWER OF LOVE

Although I recognize that I'm no where far enough along in grieving my late husband to even think about dating again or forming a new relationship with a man, this fabulous book sure gives me hope for the future. I thought that only youngish widows find love again, but the couples in this treasure of a book range from their late forties to mid-eighties! Bravo to each of them for having the guts to once again embrace life and love.
