An excellent book about experiences with grief and how to get through it. I have read other things by Lisa and she really has had some heartbreaking losses but since I know her personally, I can tell you that she has done really well in dealing with life and loss. A worthwhile book for anyone who is dealing with grief. I highly recommend.

Rarely do we come across a book that truly teaches us about ourselves as humans, through the waves that life tosses us amongst. Luckily for us, I'm happy to share a book that does just that - Lisa Overman's new memoir, Healing Through Love: The Journey of Rediscovering Joy. In her book, Overman shares a lifetime of experiences (as memoirs do), but then departs from the standard path of memoir into deep intercultural insight. Partly this is because Overman has lived and taught overseas. We know that worldview brings with it vastly different perspectives than those that haven't been an expat yet. Her experiences may be different than ours, but she's a genius at relating personal stories into global lessons for all of us. As well, Overman takes the parts of life that are difficult - death, grief, and loss - and, through hard work and much thought and love, transforms them into something beautiful.

This is a book you'll cherish, fold page corners over to remember certain passages, and take inspiration from - I know I did. Highly recommended.

When life gives Lisa Overman lemons, she makes lemonade -- and then she shares it with as many people as she can. Overman's memoir is centered around losses she has experienced and how she coped, with the purpose of helping others face their challenges and deal with them in a positive way. The book is naturally sad in places, but it is celebratory in others. Along the way the author also chronicles her life as a teacher in other countries, and watching her learn to live in other cultures is at some points laugh-out-loud funny. I recommend this book on every level.

Are you tired of waiting for the grief to pass? Then read this book. The author's ability to examine her losses and share the journey she took to heal herself is inspiring. Healing Through Love helped me to understand that I can take an active role in my healing. That time doesn't always heal all wounds ... sometimes we have to help it along and take ownership of our happiness. I was also fascinated with the different places she had lived. She is a "traveler"... both physically and mentally!

Reading Lisa's story of challenges and heartaches took me on a journey of my own life's ups and downs, too. I could relate so well to many of her feelings and perspectives even if our particular situations were quite different. In "Healing Through Love", we get to know Lisa as if she were a long-time friend. By opening up and sharing her personal experiences, I think that Lisa's story will resonate with many readers and offer inspiration and hope for healing.
