Review

Susan's recipes are some of my favorites, even when compared to those in celebrity chef cookbooks! It's incredible to me that they taste delicious, are gluten-free and made with good health in mind! --Courtlan Budman, Nurse practitioner

I am thrilled to find good-for-you cookies that actually taste like regular cookies. They are worthy of multiple batches! --Sumner Brooks, MPH, RD, CSSD

I can't make the French dark truffles too often or I would eat too many! They are a decadent, amazing treat that is actually good for you! --Eileen Dardick, Cooking teacher and baker

I purchased the “Healthier Baker’s Dozen by the Doctor’s Dietitian” as a gift for someone who is gluten sensitive but still has a love for cookies and was not disappointed! For the first batch we made the peanut butter, cranberry oatmeal, and the no-bake chocolate cookies; all were a huge success. The recipes were very easy to follow and the products came out great! Unlike other gluten-free baked goods I’ve tried, these were fluffy, moist, and had a texture similar to regular cookies. In the past I’ve had trouble with keeping gluten-free products from going stale within 1-2 days but these kept great. My personal favorites were the peanut butter cookies! Overall a great addition to anyone’s cookbook collection, gluten-free or not, and sure to produce cookies that are a crowd pleaser.

I bought this book for my mom, who is gluten free, for Christmas. I got to try the peanut butter brown sugar cookies, no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies, and cranberry oatmeal nut cookies. My favorite was the no bake cookies and we used a dark chocolate cocoa powder so they were rich and delightful. I highly recommend this book because Susan, the author, not only provides recipes that she has tested, but also talks about her gluten free flour blend. Finding yummy gluten free stuff can be difficult, but Susan did a great job.

My gluten-free friend made 3 types of these cookies for our annual holiday celebration and I have to say, I don't know which I loved most-the chocolate, peanut butter, or the oatmeal! The texture was light and moist and the flavor pure. I could tell the ingredients were high quality. I actually didn't get a sugar rush or feel heavy after eating them. Even though I'm not gluten-free, I prefer these cookies to "regular" ones! I recommend these recipes to anyone who enjoys a fantastic cookie!

This book is very well written! The recipes are very easy to follow, pictures make the product look very appetizing, and the products turn out looking just like them. I loved the helpful hints for using different types of flours for the recipes, I never knew it would make such a difference! My favorite was the no bake chocolate oatmeal cookie. it satisfied my chocolate craving without too much sugar and was very filling because of the oatmeal.

I was highly impressed with Susan's "A Healthy Baker's Dozen". Not only are the recipes easy to follow and creative, she even has the nutrition information for each cookie. The book features a wide variety of gluten free cookies for all taste buds. The peanut butter brown sugar cookie, specifically, is the best peanut butter cookie I've ever had and something I will most definitely make again soon in the future.

A Healthy Baker’s Dozen by the Doctor’s Dietitian Susan Dopart is a fantastic collection of favorite gluten-free low sugar cookies that are made with real ingredients. Beautifully designed and illustrated, this cookbook compels its readers to bake the cookies featured-and the recipes don’t disappoint. My family I loved the No-Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies and they were so easy to make!

Readers will find gluten-free baking tips particularly helpful as baking with gluten-free flours is different from regular flour. I was pleased to see the nutrition analysis for each cookie (15 grams of carbohydrate or less). A Healthy Baker’s Dozen is perfect for my patients with PCOS who are trying to control their insulin levels or need to eat gluten-free and anyone who has diabetes or who is looking for a healthier, low sugar cookie recipe, will not be disappointed by this cookbook.

Susan’s collection of gluten free treats is perfect for anyone with a health conscious sweet tooth! Easy to follow instructions will work for even the most rookie baker. My favorite is the no-bake cookies. I like them best frozen…yum! Lemon zesties were my first ever attempt at lemon bars and received rave reviews and requests for more from friends.

When balanced with a healthy diet, these treats will make a delightful sweet addition to your life! Be sure to check out Susan’s first book "A Recipe for Life by the Doctor’s Dietitian" for many other easy, yummy recipes.
