Healthy Crops: A New Agricultural Revolution

3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars 8 ratings

This work powerfully asserts the idea that rather than using pesticides, the key to helping crops resist attacks from pests is to improve their strength through natural processes. Many of industrial agriculture's fundamental principles for fighting disease, in particular the reliance on pesticides and fertilizers, are explained and convincingly challenged and a new set of guiding principles for an ecological agricultural system are presented as a genuine alternative to the widespread use of chemicals.

I only wish every farmer and worker of the land read this book. The facts shown here are clearly showing us we must honor what small amount of soil we have to produce the worlds food and we must change modern agricultural ways (petrochemical use) before it is too late.

Our society is addicted to cheap food. Chemical inputs allow that to happen in a big way. This is especially true of herbicides that eliminate undesirable competition (weeds) for water and mineral nutrients of the crop in question. I do believe that correct mineral nutrition is important to combatting pests both above and below ground. However, the simple fact is that eliminating pesticide use entirely on pest sensitive crops such as potatoes will skyrocket food costs. Demand will continue to get higher but supply will significantly drop.
