Starts out with why the author wrote the book after having her own heart attack. 5 things that make up a healthy lifestyle: no smoking, daily exercise, healthy weight, control stress and eat healthy diet.
We thought we were eating a healthy diet til my husband's heart attack. With a bit of portion control and more exercise 684 miles a year was not enough we even got bikes now and walk or bike daily (in the house even).
Listings of superfoods and choices of cooking oils. Recipes include a few color photos and long list of ingredient, mostly healthy but you should be able to substitute for your dietary needs: chicken stock can be low sodium or home made stock.
Also has servings but no nutritional information.
Other works by the author are highlighted at the end.
The author points out that this book is not about giving up favorite foods because obviously our husbands will do quite a bit of eating when we're not looking. But... she also points out that we do have a great deal of influence over the meals we do cook for him and that he won't feel like he's being deprived if we make them delicious and the recipes tell us how.
I found the author's reference to Dr. Wansink's work regarding portion size very interesting. Could you pass me a "SMALL" plate please?
She includes cooking tips and explains the why and when to choose one cooking oil over another and taught me what the Chefs of the world know as the Umami principle. Do you know what that is? I didn't.
Anyone that is looking for cookbooks on kindle with healthy meals to prepare for their husbands, their families or just for themselves, would do well to choose this one. Buy this book!
Helen Page to help me turn this man's eating habits around. Reading the memoir-like first chapter, I found myself giggling until I realized that this
writer is dead serious. She should know. As I read the recipe titles out loud to my husband, I saw him nodding and saying "I can eat that."
I have high hopes. Not only is Helen Page an outstanding cook. She's an outstanding writer. I'll read anything she writes and cook everything she
But... her suggestions make eating healthier seem much less daunting. Great book

Most of the text is centered, which makes it harder for me to read. The recipe "Lemon Ice" at location 1894 is missing.Read more
