The Final Word: We have used them for our first week of school lunches and mind you, my kids are young and not overly thoughtful when transporting their lunches. The containers have been packaged in insulated lunch bags that for the most part allow them to sit snugly at the bottom of the lunch bag. This may have prevented unwanted leakages, however they have not leaked as far as I could tell. Granted, I have not packed any overly wet/liquid items, however my daughter commented how even her hummus and salsa did not leak into the other sections of the container - this is bonus! I cannot say that the containers keep food warm or cold (I don't believe that is the intent), however it does keep it clean, organized and separated. Additionally, I have chosen not to microwave anything in the container - not a huge fan of microwaving plastic (just my personal preference).
Thus far, I have washed them in the dishwasher and I have hand washed them. I found that they did not wash so well in the dishwasher, and I had to wash them by hand afterwards as I found that the interior bottoms of the containers did not feel "clean", however this may just be my dishwasher/dish detergent and not a issue with the product. I have since just decided to hand wash them. The plastic does not seem to stain, and has retained its shape. My only wish is that the lids "clicked" into place or had some type of suctioning/sealing. I found that I had to spend a little extra time in the morning to make sure that the lids were properly aligned with the container and that they were actually closed. I guess I like the extra security of something that "clicks" or "seals" into place.
Overall, I like the containers enough to order another set so each of my kids have five containers for their weeks worth of packed lunches. Hoping this will help us to prep our lunches on the weekend!
I usually put them in the dishwasher with the lids on the top rack.
They fit perfectly in her lunchbox (it's a soft bag, zip up-rectangular) with a little room on the long side (at the top of the lunchbox) that I usually put a little water bottle that she can throw away....her Thermos drink bottle does not fit with it but in our case that is fine because she keeps that in her class and less likely to lose it! I have also packed a little plastic container at the top for salad dressing or apple sauce.
There is also room under the box for the cooler, we use the flat square freezer packs- they work great together. Also, on top of the container( ontop of lid) there is a little room between it and the lunch bag....I usually put a rolled up napkin and utensils, Sometimes a yogurt tube if I don't want it in the container for some reason. I have even put the little dip/dressing container right here, as well.
The container itself holds a lot, not just for my 6 year old's lunch but I have used it for myself, also. The little compartments on the end hold more than I thought. It can hold a lot of berries and grapes...both of the little compartments can though one is slightly larger. I sometimes put grapes in the smaller one and the larger, of the two sides, holds a good amount of crackers or chips...but not enough chips for me, don't judge 😏😄
The main compartment could hold an adult sized sandwich....for my daughter that means a bit of extra room. We have to eat gluten free so we occasionally have gluten free sandwiches but we normally pack gluten free "Lunchables" and in the main compartment I put deli meat and cheese cubes (sometimes string cheese) and a yogurt tube....basically, it holds alot!
Last thing, I have never tried holding liquids or even something like hummus in here...while the lids have not caused problems, I will say that I don't trust them to hold "runny stuff"....so keep that in mind if you're looking for something that will. For us it hasn't been a problem because we have little containers that will hold things like apple sauce.
