The story which follows two groups of 8th graders, the bullies and the bullied avengers, rings completely true. You can easily remember envision the incidents in and out of the school. The characters, both the young teens and the adults, are believable.
The author slowly develops the main character's journey in understanding herself, her friends and her enemies, so that the book's conclusion is uplifting and realistic.
This is a deeply satisfying read. Hobbs is a talented writer whose book deserves a wide audience. Readers will find "Hear Me" a thoroughly enjoyable, insightful and rewarding experience.
This is the story of a small group of young people who learn to face their fears and triumph over challenges. It's inspiring and well written. I'll be giving it to my daughters to read because the message is such an important one that I want them to have the chance to glean from it as well.
I appreciate that the author kept the story clean and accessible for kids, yet powerful enough to speak to readers of any age, including adults. A great read--I highly recommend it!
I highly recommend Hear Me as a springboard for the tough conversations adolescents are craving to have/need to have about bullying, group think, underaged drinking, prosocial behaviors, and dealing with stress.
