In the late 60's, I, like many teens, was unhappy with the way I looked. I loved the make-over feature in Seventeen and wrote to them, hoping they would do a make-over on me. I really didn't expect a response; I was sure they had millions of readers. However, not only did they write and say if they were ever in my town, they would definitely consider me, they also sent me many articles to help with all the flaws I had described to them. The one I most remember is drawing a white line down my nose to make it look longer and less wide. Unfortunately, I wasn't very good about blending it so I got an occasional question, "Why is that white line down your nose?" but what helped the most for my self-esteem is that someone at the magazine took the time to write back and express their caring. (BTW, I grew into my nose and actually like it now.) I swore when I had a daughter, she would also get a subsciption and since she is about to turn 13, it's time. I look forward to reading my old friend and confidant and I know she will too!

I ordered this magazine when I was 18, and since then I've outgrown it since it is a 2-year subscription. My younger sister (16) enjoys reading the issues now though. She loves all of the cute clothes in it and often tries out the exercise tips and recipes they include. This magazine is perfect for girls around 16-18. There are sometimes issues that have sex related things in them, but for that age group they aren't a big deal. Most of the issues are pretty clean though, so as long as parents check the table of contents they should be ok to buy this for slightly younger girls.

I ordered this magazine for my thirteen year old granddaughter and she anxiously awaits it every month. She reads it cover to cover the first day. This month it contained a poster of Taylor Lautner, so she was in heaven. When I was a teenager, a million years ago, my sisters and I would fight over who could read it first when my mom brought it home from grocery shopping. It's great to see that even after all these years, Seventeen magazine still holds the interest and excitement for teenagers.

I received Seventeen magazine as a girl in the 70s, so I was pleased to know it's still being published when my daughter asked for it a year or two ago. I subscribed here on Amazon because it was easy, inexpensive, and I have Amazon's customer service behind me if there are any issues with the subscription.

My daughter really likes all the articles in the magazine, especially the fashion, hairstyle and makeup tips. I'm a little put off by the magazine's focus on "getting" a guy and wearing the latest fashions. It was a more innocent magazine back in my day. But, she's 17 and being able to read the advice columns with questions that girls her age have has value.

A star there is because there is no way not to rate it before moving on. I subscribed to both Marie Claire and Seventeen at the same time for $5 per magazine. After 4-7 weeks later, I received both my issues, for 2 months. I then start to receive only Seventeen issue the next month. I thought my Marie Claire issue to come to me at a later date, so I didn't do anything, until the following month, when I did not receive both Marie Claire and Seventeen issue. So I wrote an email to Hearst telling the company that I didn't receive my magazines. The company responded to me saying that I changed my mailing address on Marie Claire issue, and that it received a notification from the post office saying that I requested a change of address... The company even provided a mailling address?! For Seventeen magazine, the company told me that it will send one out.
I told the company that I didn't change my address whatsoever. So it says it will change my address back, and I will start receiving the issues again. So a month went by, I didn't receive anything. I wrote back to the company, and it responded that a replacement will be sent, please wait for another 2-4 weeks to receive the magazines. 2 weeks went by, I asked the company for a refund. It responded to wait for 2-4 weeks. OK, so I waited until it is fully 4 weeks later. I wrote to the company, and ask for a refund. They agreed to cancel my subscription, and a refund will be processed through Amazon.
A day or two days later, I received an email from Amazon, saying that a refund of $1.04 for Marie Claire magazine and $1.46 for Seventeen magazine will be processed.
Now, if I do my math correctly, I should receive $4.17 ($5 / 12 issues * 10 unreceived issues) for Marie Claire magazine subscription and $3.75 ($5 / 12 issues * 9 unreceived issues) for Seventeen magazine subscription since I only received 2 out of 12 Marie Claire magazine subscription, and 3 out of 12 Seventeen magazine subscription.
I am very disappointing. I know that is not a huge amount, but I can't stand how they just rip you off like that.

So people, be aware!

I love Seventeen magazine & have for a long time, but this is the worst subscription I've ever dealt with. I think I got all of two magazines, & while I was checking to see what the most recent issue was, found out that Seventeen had gone pretty much digital-only with very few special print editions{i.e., prom}. I messaged Hearst through Amazon because I should really have gotten correspondence about this from Hearst, as it affects my subscription. They responded that they couldn't even find my subscription, and I provided the information they asked for so that they could locate it & it's been radio silence ever since. The subscription was VERY cheap so I feel like I got my money's worth, but it is a bummer to buy a year's subscription to a magazine that then changes its print schedule without informing subscribers.

Seventeen magazine has been around a while and has staying power for good reason. It is targeted at 16-17 year olds and stays pretty much on target with its content.

This is a subscription I give for gifts and I always hear back from the girls (and their moms) about how much they love it. Not trashy -- but current. Still innocent -- but fashionable. Content talks _to_ girls not _down to_ them.
