This was required reading for a class I had to take. Unfortunately I did not find it very helpful.
The author is obsessed with taxonomies, layers, phases, steps etc., you can't wait to find out how he slices the next topic into layers. He constantly quotes other authors. Now he wrote his own. Congratulations. Really not sure what's so heart-deep because writing at the heart level is not at a PhD, intellectual academic level.
So what's really original? Not sure.... A fabulous, great bed time material (works faster than Ambient).
Many of my classmates first were impressed with the author's intellect, but ultimately arrived at a similar conclusion.

Heart-Deep Teaching is a "must read" for anyone in Christian leadership and those who are engaged in equipping others to lead.

We are still passing out copies of "Heart Deep Teaching" to teachers whom we know will read it, and apply it....thanks for writing it, Dr. Newton. I am also reading an older book of yours, "Growing Toward Spiritual Maturity"... and LOVING it!!! These two books summarize our philosophy for ministry and growth for nearly 30 years. So many people get a glazed look on their face when we start sharing how we see Jesus ministering and making disciples... finally, I have a book with concisely written principles to share with them, to show we are not crazy. :-) In our efforts to equip biblical leaders for ministry, we strive to teach and model the value racyrace and truth over time ... bearing with people as they grow. We find people often quote us as saying "real life is messy" ... because we say that in the context of being willing to walk beside the "disciple in training" and be willing to get involved in their lives. There are good principles (biblical) in many of the "new" conferences for leadership ... but we are convinced it isn't about a "program"... it requires unconditional love, commitment, and Spirit-empowered energy invested in people's lives... not just giving them biblical knowledge and facts... and it also takes time to see fruit. We live in such an instant society, that many leaders are not willing to hang in there when the road gets messy, long, and rocky with people. Before long, our young leaders will be quoting us (quoting you, Dr. Newton), "The goal of Christian education must be to transform the heart so that every aspect of the person becomes progressively more Christlike." Amen. Your books have encouraged our hearts so much; thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Reviewed in Germany on March 4, 2019Verified Purchase
