Great, Great book. This is a surefire hit with youngsters. But I will add that adults should read this book too. It is very well written with fantastic character development (I love Lady)! I am a huge dog lover (my current dog is a "senior" lab mix I adopted from the local animal shelter) and this is about as good of a book for dog lovers as I have found. I am not ashamed to admit, having lost my 1st dog & best friend, that there were a few times during this book that tears came to my eyes, but in the end it was entertaining, moving, and enjoyable. Well done, I am anxious to read Heart of a Hero next (the dog on the cover looks a lot like my dog:) This is a must have for all families!

This book is a great story on many levels. If you have a young reader interested in dogs, action stories, or WWII historical fiction then they will all find something to hold their attention in this book. If you are an adult reader that likes dogs then I am sure you will enjoy it as well.

I love books that are based on a true story. I consider myself to be pretty familiar with WWII history, but I never realized the role dogs played in the Pacific theatre.

I hope everyone has a chance in their life to know a dog like Lady.

My 10 year old daughter and I read this book together over the course of several nights! This is perhaps the best book that I have ever read with her! We often found ourselves laughing out loud. It's a very hard book to put down (both for me and my daughter). She told me how much she enjoyed the book. If you love dogs, like we do, this is a MUST READ! We will definitely read more books by this author!
I was blown away by just how much this book drew us in! This is a great book to read together with your 10 year old!

Wonderful book for readers of most ages. With themes of bravery, loyalty, service to nation, and love of animals, the reader is drawn into the story. You may want to wait to share with very young readers, as there are some mild scenes of war and injury, and lives passing on. Really a must-read!

Heart of a Hero by Billi Tiner blends together action, adventure and the unfailing loyalty of a wonderful dog named Lady to create a story that captures the heart and won't let go. As an animal lover, especially dogs I was immediately drawn into the story of Lady, and was excited to learn that the story was based on an actual dog that served in the military. I really enjoyed seeing the story told thru the eyes of the animals, and honestly felt like the author did a wonderful job of transitioning between animals and people. I found the historical aspects of this story to be quite informative, while I knew about dogs serving in the military this fictionalized story seemed very realistic in the way that it might have been done. I really want to learn more about the history of animals in the military. A quick easy read that is geared toward young readers but will certainly appeal to all age levels. I would caution that some situations are a bit intense so I would caution parents of younger children to perhaps read the book first. Overall a wonderfully written story that actually was quite emotional at times, while I knew what would happen at the end it didn't keep me from shedding a few tears. An added bonus is that the author provides a sneak peek of another of her books titled Welcome Home, and it sounds like another riveting read, one that I can't wait to read!

Although I'm over sixty and my children are grown (although they haven't given me grandchildren but I'm still hoping) this story really moved me. I really can't see how anyone who has loved a dog could possibly not fall in love with Lady (even if your special friend didn't have the "heart of a hero" and was just the most wonderful dog in the world to you)!!

This book is also a well-deserved tribute to all the war dogs who saved (and continue to save) countless lives of soldiers serving their country around the world!! Also, too little honor and recognition has been given to their loving owners on the home front who gave up their beloved pets to serve their country, often at great personal sacrifice!!! This book did a beautiful job of showing that aspect of the war dogs' story as well.

The book is easy to read with a smooth, flowing style from beginning to end and with no editing mistakes to take away from my reading enjoyment. The imagery was really quite exceptional and the author's powers of description are truly amazing, particularly of the combat scenes. It was also very clever how this story is told from Lady's POV. I found that style particularly fun to read.

Middle school age children could easily read this book on their own but if my children were younger, I would definitely want to read it with them in order to share in their pleasure as well as share personal and family stories that were relevant.

Obviously, I think that this story could be read and enjoyed by both genders, ages 8-80+. If you're looking for a lovely book for yourself, your child, or a friend, I highly recommend that you try this one. (Fair warning: Keep some tissues handy!) Happy Reading! :-)
