The phrase ‘Listen to your heart’ goes so far back in human vernacular it’s impossible to know who first spoke these four immortal words. This book captures the love, magic and incredible intuitive guidance of the human heart, and its ability to send this information to create a heart-brain interaction. It’s a nice introduction to the powerful, multidimensional aspects of what we can all aspire to. Since words have vibration, I felt elation as I read specific parts of it. A grateful thank you to the authors who contributed to Heart Intelligence, because to me, this is really a Book of Hope. There are a multitude of ‘pearls of wisdom’ scattered throughout, such as from page 101- “As groups of people make efforts to increase their heart coherence, it adds to a momentum of positive, evolutionary change which is what will help society to re-shape itself”. Or from page 94- “It wasn’t surprising to learn that the heart generates the strongest magnetic field in the body, approximately 100 times stronger than that produced by the brain. This field can be detected several feet from the body with sensitive magnetometers”. Or from page 87- “When we sit quietly in a heart coherent state, it can at times seem like not much is going on. When you’re in a coherent state, your nervous system is much more aligned, your hormonal and immune systems are getting rebalanced, and your mind and emotions are connecting with more of your spirit. All of this internal realignment increases resilience throughout your system”. And finally from pages 154-55- “When our vibrations are up, our heart energy flows through our interactions. We naturally generate uplifting feelings from a more empowered demeanor: We are kinder, more gracious and we genuinely connect with others. We respond to stressful situations with soundness, resilience, and clearer discernment. We are less vulnerable to frustration, impatience, anger, anxiety, and we feel more self-secure and less critical of others and of ourselves. We are drawn to notice nature, flowers and trees that we usually sleep-walk past, as our preoccupations rob us of this gift of conscious connection. In a lower vibration we tend to allow negative thoughts and feelings the license to roam and feed from our life force. As we feed them life, they are inclined to run our life.” We have the choice to learn to consciously intervene and reset our daily vibration, and by doing this, create a much better world for all. Hope springs eternal, and this book gives you the tools to help.

And there resteth one of the inherent difficulties in reviewing this book: if you are seeking a scientific understanding of the astral body and its principle chakra (the heart) set in the context of a coming of age story for bioself-regulatory devices, then read on - it is a beautifully written and inspiring exploration of the qualities of the heart-brain connection especially Doc Childre’s writings which border (for me at least) on the poetic.
However, by the time the novelty of learning to switch incoherent heart noise to a coherent frequency by increasing HRV (Heart Rate Variability) or flow is exposed [HRV is the changeability in the flutter rate between the beats of the heart]; and by the time you read about what are fairly rudimentary techniques of breathing and attention (e.g. the heart lock); and by the time you might have gone a step further and purchased the Inner Balance or emWave2 device (in promoting the ‘carryover effect’ of building resilience) then.. maybe the insights the book contains could blend into a commentary of underwhelmingness, when so many MBS books are labouring under the strain of implicit knowledge, energetic sensitivity and nonlocality.
The potential for the technology developed by Heartmath Institute is clearly revolutionary for the individual, for the group and for the planet: “as people practice heart coherence it generates an energetic field that makes it easier for others to connect with their heart and create social and global coherence.” My slight reservations are certainly not to detract from the book’s expressed noble aims from easing up and finding the flow and developing managed concern not overcare - though sparkly neologisms aside there is little insightful substance that hasn’t been covered elsewhere In My Honest Opinion.
