Kristin Armstrong --- author, contributing editor for Runner's World magazine, and inspirational speaker --- writes about the magnitude and meaning of motherhood in her newest book, HEART OF MY HEART. As a single mother to three preteens, Armstrong offers a day-by-day inspirational introspective devotional for moms with kids of all ages. Armstrong muses on the lessons she has learned as a mom (and as a mom parenting solo) and how her faith is the foundational staying factor for every decision she now makes. Transparent in her perspective of sometimes feeling overwhelmed, under-qualified and out of her league to parent her son and twin daughters, Armstrong's voice reads comforting and familiar.

Throughout this beautifully designed book, Armstrong's format is first and foremost to put readers' attention onto a brief scriptural reading. Then she weaves together some personal anecdote or a story or two with the theme of the verse. Within a single page, she succeeds in directing her readers to the Bible, relating the timeless truth to daily living, and then nicely sums up with a strong takeaway closing sentence. Just a few of the topics she discusses include stress, over-commitment, exhaustion, patience, anger, loss, discouragement, doubt, contentment, courage, friendship, reconciliation, forgiveness, regret and hope.

Though every one of Armstrong's essays have something worth mulling over throughout the day, some of the more stick-with-you devotionals are those that challenge women to step outside of their comfort zones, no matter what that particular scenario looks like to each individual woman.

I was given this book as a gift and turned around a few weeks later to purchase several copies to give as gifts. It is a well-written devotional that speaks to the heart of parenting with purpose. For me, parenting would be impossible if I didn't stay connected to my Parent in Heaven. This book reminds me daily to stay connected, and stay grounded to my Source of Wisdom and might...I think it is a gift for my children as well: a happy, grounded mommy! I highly recommend it!

This is my third "Heart of My Heart". I was given the first as a gift that I ended up giving away to someone who needed the encouragement. I bought the second as a gift and now enjoying once again Kristin's perspective and wisdom. "Heart of My Heart" is a must for morning devotion and reflection. Thanks Kristin!

I have given several of Kristen Armstrong's devotional books as gifts (especially the she wrote after her divorce). I came across this book at a yard sale. The message she provides each day is a way to be inspired for the day. There are days when the verse and story hits close to home. If you have young women who have young children this is a perfect gift for them. She understands what they are going through.

Intolerant and sanctimonious. quote "I can see myself as an old woman, and I know I won't want possessions". Uh, you and everyone else in the 1rst world says that. quote "I know some people who are brilliantly swinging bright careers, raising great kids, and loving amazing men. They rarely talk about being busy. They are too excited about what's going on, and too interested in what and how other people are doing. I also know plenty of people who don't work outside the home, whose husbands handle most things, and who use "but I have two kids, three kids, four kids" as an excuse for why there loose ends are flying about in a tangle, and then they complain that they are sorry, but they are just so busy. Huh?"......Huh? How about all the stuff in the middle, outside of those two extremes? Puh-leez and no thanks to reflections had after 3 beers....er bible verses, while your parents down the street are minding the kids.
