Mara waited and waited for Edward. Still no word, she went on with her everyday duties of taking care of Princess Liza. But when she did stand up to her Aunt the queen or did something wrong, she was forced to harm her cousin Garreth. Mara would argue that she couldn't hurt him, but the Queen, as means as ever, would threaten her and she would have to comply anyway. Garreth understood this and told her to go ahead and do it. Being immortal, they would heal and be good as new.
As years went by and no word from or of Edward, Mara never gave up hope and waiting. It seemed the older Mara got, the meaner the Queen got. She was always having Mara hurt someone she loved or cared for. This was taboo to the Queen. It got to where I really hated Queen Clarissa. K. L. Bone did such a good job with the Queen, that I just wanted to reach into my kindle and stab her with a sward.
The where about's and torture that Edward went through all this time is revealed. He has more strength then most men. As things got worse with Mara and the Queen, Edward would have dreams about her and what she is going through. He knew he needed to stay alive and get to her, so he hung on to what little strength he had.
Very emotional storyline. My heart broke, I was scared, I felt hate and a few ah ha moments. I did a lot of crying and did a No! when I reached the end. This book put everything into perspective as I held on to the tissue box.
