The author is the abbess of a well known temple and that temple runs a
very popular restaurant - she has been cooking Temple cuisine for many years
and studied at a very famous temple which has a Princess Abbess (an abbess that is a member of the Imperial family). Such temples which are under the protection and support of the Imperial Household are always run at the highest
level of Buddhist principles.
The recipes are simple, pure, and delicious. Most people will have to special order ingredients but this is
worth it if you are interested in this famous style of cuisine. A few ingredients are not available in US
but not many.
This would also be an excellent book for those on a diet or who follow spa cuisine types of diet.
Many of the dishes make excellent side dishes with other styles of vegetarian or non vegetarian cuisines.
The photos are very nice and give a clear representation of this style of eating.
If you are in Tokyo go to the restaurant - you will need reservations in advance on many days as it is popular.
