I liked Elizabeth Lyons' driven personality. She was successful and strong, focused solely on her future and her career. I loved how she climbed to the top of an industry that was basically an "all boys club". She's a talented and undistracted executive and she's proud of her accomplishments. But she's very bitter towards romance because she'd been wounded by failed relationships...either her own or those close to her. I didn't like that there were no descriptions of her character until ch. 29. How am I supposed to connect without a visual? Only at ch. 29 are we told she has blond hair...nothing else. Is she tall or petite? Is she curvy? What color are her eyes? How old is she? Nothing.
I love characters like Daniel Alexander (age?..anyone??)... who are so arrogant and sure of themselves....so controlling yet unhappy with life and the women that bow and scrape at his feet. I love characters like him because they're the ones that fall the hardest and it's so satisfying to read. And when he meets Elizabeth, he not only fall's to his knees dumbstruck, but this powerful and very wealthy, prominent man becomes borderline obsessed with her and it was pretty great.
But I didn't like this story a whole lot...the ending was as if the author had a deadline tomorrow, or in the next hour, and summed everything up within a few paragraphs. I not only was left feeling the book was unfinished but that this couple's relationship wasn't even established or solid. They just reconciled and then kaBAM, the story was done. It's like speeding down the highway at night unknowing there's a brick wall in your path and you're merrily driving along, and then suddenly BAM...you're stopped dead and it's over, and you're left reeling. And how Daniel handles an ex-girlfriend when she refuses to let him go??...her calling Elizabeth to beg her to break up with him? That little bit of controversy could've been fleshed out better. SO much better. And I never could figure out why on earth this author decided to bring back Ben...Elizabeth's ex from college...someone who used to be in Elizabeth's life EIGHT YEARS AGO! Someone she's never heard from and then all of a sudden, literally, he's calling her and practically stalking her?!?!! I mean, WTF?? What's up with that? I could go on but hopefully you get the gist.
