Editorial Reviews

Review

"From its compelling characters, to the competent prose that holds us rapt cover to cover, this is a book I could not put down." - Natasha is a Book Junkie.

"Devoured it in one sitting. Sexy, witty, and fresh. Their love was not meant to be, their love should never work, but Lee and Karla can't deny what burns so deep and strong in their hearts. Confidently a TRSoR recommendation and fave!" - The Rock Stars of Romance.

"WOW!!! It's hard to find words right now, I don't think the word LOVE even makes justice or can even describe how much I adored this novel. Karla handcuffed my senses and Lee stole my heart." - Dee, Wrapped Up In Reading.

"Hearts of Blue captivated me from the beginning. It was thrilling, fast paced and very original." - Patrycja, Smokin' Hot Book Blog.

"The world isn't blue, isn't lonely any more, and though I was supposed to be the thief she was the one who stole my heart.". We met Lee Cross and Karla Sheehan briefly in King of Hearts and you could tell their story was going to be intense with all the sparks flying (sidetone this is a standalone, but you should do yourself a favor and read all of them anyways!).

So we have these two that could not be leading more different lives, Lee a known criminal and Karla a police officer who wants to be Sergeant and yet when they meet they are both attracted to each other and can't seem to keep away.

LH Cosway writes the best heroes, not because they are perfect but because they all have their flaws. Lee was dealt a very difficult hand and is doing the best he can with what he has. Despite of what he does for a living he has honor, cooks, looks out for his family, basically he is not your douchey Alpha male thug and that was just very very swoon worthy. "Why are you hugging me? You liked like you needed to be held." ----see? Swoon.

"I'm sorry if I ever hurt you, I whispered into the dark room. Lee was quiet for a long time before he whispered back, "Hurting with you is better than a painless life without you." -----right in the feels!

Lee & Karla's story was ok. Some of the anguish was heart breaking as you could tell how love struck Lee was over Karla yet she would not budge when it came to a relationship unless Lee would change his ways.

What Karla couldn't seem to understand that in life things aren't all colours; they may not be black&white but that they're always shades of Grey's and darkness that don't allow the others to shine through and that was Lee Cross and his family's life built up in.

They didn't have choices and Lee was the one to make a life choice so that they could all survive and it wasn't till the end of the story when Karla comes to terms with that understanding. In saying, that is the reason I gave the book a 3 as the story dragged on too much and I couldn't get stuck into the story line waiting for something to happen and then bang toward the end all the action came into play.

Lee was a great guy even if he was in the other end of the law, I felt Karla was a stick in the mud and should of turned her head a few times instead of being soooo righteous. She even became somewhat of annoying.

I’ve got such a girl-crush on this author! Her awesome writing talent really speaks to me. She grips me from the beginning and I just get caught in the spell of her words.

Karla is a copper. She walks a straight line. She upholds the law. She stands up for those in need.

Lee is a criminal. He walks a shady path – a path he was forced to choose to provide for his brothers and cousin. He stands up for his family.

There was a spark between them from the moment they met. Karla tried to ignore him but Lee was persistent, cheeky and charming. Circumstances kept throwing them together, until Karla couldn’t resist anymore.

“There was no game. I’d fallen for him, plain and simple, and I’d never be the same again.”

As the story develops, there is a constant push and pull between them, as Lee goes about his business and Karla tries to do her job. Their hearts are put on the line, Karla’s job is at risk, and hard decisions have to be made.

I felt so invested in these star-crossed lovers. Karla is a strong, independent woman and a good police officer. She’s constantly pushing against her stern father’s sexism, but she’s willing to stand by her beliefs. Lee is a caregiver and provider. He’s not the eldest but he’s definitely the smartest in his family. His feelings for Karla are real and intense, and he’ll take her any way he can. He is so passionate and needy when he’s with her.

“Don’t pretend like you can’t feel what’s between us…I’ve been deep inside you, Karla. I know who you are and you know who I am. You’re just too scared to admit it.”

I liked the way Lee challenged Karla, forcing her to see that life is not simply black and white. In turn, she challenges him to see that he could live an honest life.

“Hurting with you is better than a painless life without you.”

This novel was full of chemistry, banter, desperation, and hope. Such wonderful writing! I absolutely adored it!!

Let me just start with Lee. That guy was the best of the book. He's protective of his family and loved ones, he's funny, he's sweet and he's hot. So what that he's doing what he has to, in order to offer protection to said family and loved ones? Wouldn't any of us do that, if that were the case?

Karla wanted to help people, no matter what, so she became a cop. That was her way of protecting everyone, stranger or loved one. Her world was black and white, no gray areas to be found.

Until the end of the book, I was firmly convinced these two wouldn't work it out. Why? Not because they're so different. So many other books out there have couples that are the exact opposite of each other but they make it work. Why? Because they want to. Here, Karla was fighting this tooth and nail. She was fighting Lee all the way and it got pretty exhausting and frustrating.

The story itself also lacked something, that special something the third and fourth had, the ones that gave me so many feels. This one? Not so many. Almost none at all.

I guess this one wasn't meant to be for me but! I'm really looking forward to what's coming up in 2016! Stu broke my heart and had me wanting to hug him tight. Can't wait!

3 - 3.5 stars.
