About the Author
RADHULE WEININGER, MD, PhD, is a clinical psychologist who first trained as a medical doctor in Germany before migrating to the US more than thirty years ago. She has a clinical practice in Santa Barbara and runs a yearly program at the La Casa de Marie Retreat Centre. She encountered Buddhism in Sri Lanka as a young medical student. Jack Kornfield and Allan Wallace are her mentors. She teaches meditation retreats both in the US and internationally.

Radhule is warm and engaging as she tells her story of her childhood traumas after being placed in an orphanage as in infant and then growing up in post-war Germany with her Catholic family. Her story draws us in telling how she stumbled into a monastery in Shri Lanka where she first learned about meditation, her journey discovering Buddhism and how it shaped her life today as a clinical psychologist and meditation teacher. She is raw and honest, unafraid to expose her deepest self with the reader. The stories along the way, as well as a section with 9 personal stories, prove to be examples of how people not only ended their suffering but enriched their lives and relationships giving us hope and courage to practice the meditations in our own lives.
Thoroughly understandable and enjoyable reading. This is a book I will go back to over and over whenever my heart needs healing from what is disturbing me.
Some of the material used in her workshops and retreats, which has been refined over many years, is included. After sharing her own life experiences in part one, in part two she includes practices for cultivating self-compassion. The Mindful-Pause practice used in her Cultivating Emotional Balance workshops is an example of the many well thought out teachings illustrated in this book. Heart Work: The Path of Self-Compassion is a wonderful summation of Radhule’s own Heart Work. It is a generous offering of tools that can be used and referred to in our own personal spiritual path.
