This Heathcliff marathon is not so much a full-length movie as it is a "best of" collection of seven short tales woven together in a continuous story, featuring the vocal talents of the late, legendary Mel Blanc (Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, et al.). The story opens on a rainy day as Uncle Heathcliff babysits his nephews. Opening his photo album, he recounts past adventures, quickly introducing the vintage episodes that fans will relish. In one tale, Heathcliff's pop gets parole, although Heathcliff thinks he's escaped; in another, Heathcliff's "good angel" conscience makes a short-lived appeal to his saintly side. Nostalgia reigns as the tabby holy terror plays various roles of television star, wrestling champ, and neighborhood bully. The best of the bunch is Heathcliff's brief work for the mob boss, "The Catfather"--a priceless piece of voiceover genius. And don't miss the two bonus episodes featuring standby favorites, the Catillac Cats. (Ages 6 and older) --Lynn Gibson

Heathcliff:The Movie was released to movie theatres in 1986. It was released at the height of the then current Heathliff syndicated TV show's popularity, which also featured shorts starring The Catillac Cats(a.k.a. Cats and Co.)after each Heathcliff short.

The story begins on a rainy day where Heathcliff's look alike triplet nephews are visiting him at his house. When he hears that they're bored, he decides to entertain them by telling them stories of his exploits while looking at his photo album. Despite their many attempts to escape, Heathcliff always finds ways to stop them and to continue telling them these stories of his life, even though they really have no real interest in hearing them. The stories are simply Heathcliff shorts that were featured as part of the 1984 syndicated TV series minus The Catillac Cats shorts, though Hector, Wordsworth and Mungo did make frequent guest appearances on the Heathcliff segments, usually as foils for Heathcliff or to help him out whenever he needed them for help. With the exception of the shorts featured in the movie, Grandma, Grandpa, Iggy, Marcy and others are noticeably absent here, as the movie focuses mainly on Heathcliff telling the stories of his exploits to his look alike triplet nephews despite their non-interest. For those who haven't seen this, I will not give away anything to spoil it for any of you.

Mel Blanc's voice as Heathcliff is pretty funny as Blanc really reflects Heathcliff's tough alley cat styled personality and shows that he is truly the right person to voice the title character. May Mel Blanc always rest in peace. He really was a true master and a true comic genius.

I bought this movie for only $5.00 in 1990 at a local bargain closeout store when I first bought a VCR.

Not the greatest movie in the world. I game it 3 out of 5 because watching the movie is almost like watching mulitple episodes of the show. It's like watching a clip episode. I think that kids of today would love this show, but I'd pick up a TV season of the show rather than this movie. That way the can experience the Cadillac cats too.

This 'movie' is basically a clip show put together to pretend it is a movie. It's okay, though. Keeps kids entertained for a couple of hours, so it does what it's supposed to.
