One day you may pass me in the street, oblivious of the apparently unremarkable mother/grandmother that is me. But in that moment something about YOU will have triggered a new story in me, and that essence of you will be captured forever in my words.
That's the way most of my short stories have begun. A child, an eye-contact between adults, a fleeting overheard comment - these are the food for my storyteller's mind.
As long as I can remember I have had stories emerging in my mind, but like many, I have had to be a breadwinner. Luckily for me I was able to use my skill with words in jobs that included journalism, writing for publications like Trade Aid, writing for multimedia productions, creation of course material for tutors and online delivery. These positions kept my love of and skill with words alive. Now I am able to totally indulge myself in the joy of creation, day after day. How blessed is that?
My passion at the moment is writing novels - A Pearl Amongst Swine is the title of Novel 3. Novel 1 (More Than I Could Bear) is published and Novel 2 (Family Ties and Rainbow Bonds) is in editing and will be released May 2015. My webpage www.writegear.co will keep you in touch with my published books and soon-to-be-released titles. You can also link up with some of my recommended books by other authors, videos on developing your writing, and other tools I have used.
I started writing short stories for adults, although I am about to publish the 5th in a series of Kindle books for adults to read to children. That's the parent and grandparent coming out in me! The stories are about an irrepressible young girl called Marigold Brightbutton.
I also indulge myself with two blogs: Real Estate Rollercoaster (to do with building and home matters), and Sylvawood Under the Stars (where I discuss anything from energy conservation to gluten-free foods) and my WriteGear blog which you can reach on my website. The regular writing commitment helps the discipline ;)
A series of life chances have led me and my Civil Union partner to live in a beautiful rural area of New Zealand overlooking a wide bay, in a diverse community with an overriding passion for the environment. The area is full of generous-spirited individuals who make my heart sing and my keyboard clatter.
