- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2015We visit the North Fork often. I thought this was an excellent depiction of what happened on the farms and how things have changed. Although the potato farms are gone, they are now replaced with some very nice wineries. After I read the book, I bought a copy for my inlaws who grew up in Cutchogue and whose family left farming due to the difficulty in making a living.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2013Steve Wick has really mastered researching his subject. The information is not only accurate, but well told. His turn of phrase is masterful. Anyone interested in learning about an area's history should read this book. Acquiring knowledge this way is enjoyable. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the early families of our Country.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2013I truly enjoyed the history of the place where I was raised back in the early 50's. It would have been even better had the author expanded his research into more of the farmers located even further East. It was a great read regardless
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2010Steve Wick has written a valuable work about the history of Long Island farming, particularly the North Fork. Like Peter Matthiessen's, Mens Lives, this book is a must read for anyone who is a student of Long Island history. I commend Mr. Wicks on the wonderful job he has done in preserving the history of these local LI families for future generations.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2014I did not receive this book. I ordered it for my husband, to replace the one we had, but the item was out of stock
- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2015Being a Long Islander and loving the north fork's farm country, I wanted to know more about farming on Long Island and it's history. This book did not disappoint. It is well written and the pictures are fantastic. I would definitely recommend this book!
