Product Description

Good unit. High output. Negative ions have no smell. Any "smell" is generated by the result of secondary reactions and breakdown byproducts of pollutants. If you have a heavy smell reaction, it is just that, you have a heavy contamination problem.(mold, mildew, particles, pet odors, nicotine stains, etc.) when I first installed it on the ceiling, there was a smell, the house had been smoked in for years and nicotine stained the ceiling. After a week the room just "smells" fresh.(there is an actual lack of odor, like a clean room in manufacturing) Your house cuts off the natural negative ions in the environment, and appliances inside generate positive ions. You must generate an abundance of negative ions to overcome the abundance of positive ones inside the house. Anyone who doesn't have a negative ion generator in their house will die sooner and sicker than the people who do.

Below is my original review and I have no reason to back off from this high opinion of the product. However, the ionizers do give out after a few years and when I ordered replacement units, things got so crazy I am revising my rating on the basis of extremely poor service from the company. To begin with, I placed two orders the same day, each for two ionizers. As you know, every order has a tracking slip associated with it. One order was delivered but the other was not but someone at the company applied the tracking slip for the delivered order to the other undelivered order as well and showed it as having been delivered. There is no excuse for doing that but mistakes do happen and so I contacted them to ask them to ship my second order and explained the mistake in detail, giving them both order numbers and the tracking slip number, and I was very clear about what the mistake entailed.

I won't go into the email exchanges that then ensued with a person who seemed unable not only to understand what I said, but to take any action. It took a week and several email exchanges to get him to ship my second order. This company makes an excellent product and my experience with this one person was so bad that I have no doubt that he will not have this job for very long. By the time you read this there may be a new, more competent person in that job, but if you are reading this any time in early 2014, I suggest that you see if you can buy this product from some other source and not have to deal with this incompetent person.

Here's my original review: I bought three of these many years ago, don't remember exactly how many years, and they are still working just as well as they did when I first bought them. I just ordered another one for my truck.

They WILL create dust as ionized particles stick to whatever is close to the ionizer. But hey, those are particles you otherwise would be breathing! Negative ionizers are especially important if you have a room with computer equipment and electric lights, which load the air with too many positively charged ions.

Other ionizers look jazzier in the product photos but this is a compact, neat little unit that does a better job than some others I've had.

What the ad copy doesn't say - an important omission - is that it comes with a DC adaptor for your car, a great idea if you are driving in auto exhaust much - and who isn't?

This works very well at taking out pet odor, cat sand dust, and food borne smells. However, it does have a metallic smell of it's own. I don't recommend putting this in a bedroom or area you occupy all the time, the smell is obnoxious (unless you don't mind the constant metal working odor). It is silent, it cleans well, and does it's job. They just need to deal with the odor issue and I would give it a five. Since I use this in areas people don't sit around, I bought two of them. One for a pair of smokers living in my home and for litter box odor/sand dust.

I am used to new equipment having some "new" chemical smell from the plastic and other materials. However, the odor from the Heaven Fresh HF 200 (BLACK COLOR) was completely overwhelming. It was like an open can of paint thinner. Even after having removed it from the box and leaving it on for several days (hoping that it would purify its own stink), it still smelled to high heaven. I suspect that the unusually strong odor was from the unusual type of finish which has a textured velvety feel to it. How ironic that an air purifier would make the home smell so bad. If the smell of paint doesn't bother you, it will probably be okay for you.

UPDATE: I ordered the wood grain model to see if my intuition was right -- that the extremely strong chemical smell was from the unusual velvety finish (you can't tell from the picture) of the black colored model. It seems intuition was right. The wood grain model (which has a gloss finish) does not have the strongly offensive "paint thinner" smell and whatever "new smell" there was went away after a few days. The wood colored unit seems to work well.

The ionizer arrived around 3PM today and I set it up in the lounge. This is a 12' x 12' room usually occupied by two cats during the day. They are not too smelly but visitors notice all the same. On high setting the air seemed fresher after fifteen minutes. After thirty minutes the air was a little too fresh and the smell of ozone became very noticeable. I switched to the low setting which seemed just right so left it there. I will try the ionizer in the bedrooms but I'm already sure I will be buying more units. However, for the average room, the HF 200 is overkill and it's likely the cheaper HF 100 will be just as effective. Very impressed so far.

FYI Note the seller sends this purifier with a European plug not North American, and responded to my query that all you have to do is go buy a North American adapter, and that no one else complained. This should be noted on their product page! The product is great once you buy the right adapter.
