Though I read this book some time ago, I had to go back and reflect on what she shared with us in her first poetic offering, and it is just as timely today as it was when originally published. The book takes us on a rollercoaster of our soul, allowing us to recognize the past but not be defined by it as well as realize the glimmers of hope and love that are all around us that we are sometimes too busy to appreciate.
One of the fascinating aspects of the book is her poetic tributes to some of the stars of our time. Some have passed on since the book was released, however, it's great to see how they influence Berlinda and gave her something to hold on to. Isn't that the great thing about having examples of greatness? We are able to see what they have accomplished and start creating our own path to the greatness destined for us.
I think one of the great lessons of the book A HEAVEN IN THE GHETTO is that you don't have to live in Hollywood or New York to be a star. All you have to do is live your life with purpose and passion and all that is supposed to come your way will do so in its time.
Shared with skill, this is a book that will help you not only to appreciate the gift of poetry but the gift within us all.
