PLEASE read this amazing story of faith, prayer, miracles, and progress, not perfection.

Lindy Boone has gone through hell and back and shares her story with candor, honesty, pain, and undying hope. Her faith in God and His will for her beautiful son, Ryan, will remind readers of how we should never underestimate the power of one good prayer.

Or a million good prayers.

I thought this story was interesting and inspiring. I found the backstory of the Boone family interesting, but unexpected. I thought after sharing the details of the accident, Michaelis would have traveled through his recuperation and recovery, without going into the past of the Boone family. I found that there was a little unnecessary repetition. However, the inspirational aspect of Ryan's story made up for that.

It was a sad story to read about a young man in the prime of his life that suffered a devastating accident that changed his life forever. It was amazing to read the story of his survival and recovery, but at times I was not clear about the pace of his improvement. For example, is seemed like he went from comatose with no facial movement to trips to McDonald's and talking. I would have enjoyed more medical information about his condition.

I do wish there would have been some pictures included in the book, to see Ryan before and after to have a face to put with the name. I also wish there would have been more information about his current level of functioning and day to day life.

With all of that being said, while that would have made the book more interesting for me, I realize the message of the book was to share God's healing grace in the miraculous survival of Ryan and the fact that God holds everyone's life in his hands.

Overall, I think this was an interesting book. If you are a fan of the Boone family, you would probably enjoy this book.

I've been interested in the Boone family ever since I saw a picture of Pat Boone on the cover of TV Guide in the fifties (I was around 9 or 10) and asked my mom the name of the handsome man. I read Pat Boone's book A New Song which he wrote after he recommitted himself to Christ. I've been curious about his family and what it was like growing up in not only a famous family but a famous Christian family. So Lindy opens up a little about her family life which was very interesting to me. She stresses that her life was very easy in comparison with what she had to deal with when her 24-year-old son Ryan had his horrific accident.

I read this book in one sitting (well I just stopped for dinner). The fact that Ryan can actually pray and talk about wanting to serve the Lord after the traumatic brain injury he suffered is amazing, inspiring, and a testament to the power of prayer. I felt as though I were at his bedside suffering along with his mom and family members. Lindy doesn't gloss over the brain injury and its impact on a family. She reveals the parts that are scary and unappealing--the inappropriate anger that brain injuries can cause (somewhat like Tourette Syndrome), the terrible depression that can descend upon the caregivers, and the distance from family that a caregiver faces when devoting her time to the injured one, to name three challenges faced by the Boone family.

I will be honest and say that, despite the fact that I am a Christian, I could have done with far fewer Biblical stories--only because when I'm reading anyone's story I get very impatient with digressions. Don't tell me about the research you've done. Don't give me the history of anything. Just stay with what happened and how you felt.

This is the account of Ryan Corbin, who was severely injured when he fell 40 feet through a skylight. It is told by his mother and describes her childhood as the daughter of singer Pat Boone, relationship with her son, and the tragedy. I thought the book was a decent read about prayer and trusting God no matter what happens.

Heaven Hears: The True Story of What Happened When Pat Boone Asked the World to Pray for His Grandson's Survival

"If it is my turn to grow and do something for the cause of Christ, then all I ask is, God, show me how. Don't let this suffering be for no reason." - Lindy Boone Michaelis

Lindy Boone Michaelis tells the story of how her life was turned upside-down when her son, Ryan Corbin, stepped through a skylight and fell three stories. Throughout this tragedy, Lindy finds her strength in Christ and trusts in His miracles, even when doctors were telling her that her son would not survive. Being the daughter of famous Pat Boone, she was able to appear on Larry King Live, along with her father, multiple times - the first, asking the world to pray for her son.

Eighteen months after Ryan's freak fall, viewers were able to see the result of their prayers when Ryan appeared alongside his mother, grandfather, and other family members on Larry King Live. A survival against all odds - proof of God's miracles.

Throughout this book, you are able to see God's hand in this situation as Lindy shares of the hours, days, months, and years following Ryan's accident. She shares her journal entries of her crying out to God for healing, her drawing closer to God, and her praising for His unending mercies.

I enjoyed reading this book, even though after a brief introduction of Ryan's accident, I found it took awhile to get back to the story of what was happening because Lindy tells more of her story growing up as a Boone. Once she moved back into the story of Ryan's accident, I found it much more compelling to read.
