"Wherever you are, however you got there, if it's good, you're meant to be there either because you earned it or life led you there and you were smart enough to hold on."
Wow, wow, wow!!! Heaven and Hell is another gem and wonderfully penned by Kristen Ashley! She delivers in spades! Sam strongly reminds me of Tate. Sampson Cooper (what a name!) is another badass, no-holds-barred-I'm-in-charge-and-protecting-what's-mine hero. A wonderful specimen of a male miracle who sparkles his very special magic! Wow, I feel dizzy! I'm drooling and I am meeeelting away here!
Kia Clementine is mentally scarred and even though Sam had to deal with his own demons, he is helping her to find her self-esteem. It's a very bumpy road back to a happy and fulfilling life. Healing is always a matter of time but then again, sometimes it's also a matter of opportunity. Sam offers this opportunity and is right there to catch her when she's falling. He is the alpha male who pushes every right button of a woman's mind and body, and I think he gives the female population a tingly feeling in their tummies. Mmmm...I can feel the butterflies!
Kristen is such an incredibly gifted story-teller! She makes me smile and laugh, she renders me speechless at times. And she makes me cry. Moreover, it's always such a pleasure reading and reviewing her stories; I feel deeply content.
Heaven and Hell is a powerful and emotional story and I think it's a shout out to everyone to stand up against abuse. We mustn't tolerate it in any form. Sam mentioned "Fearless" and "I'm there". So little words and they mean the world in Heaven and Hell. This story touched me to my very core!
Kia was in hell and ultimately found her heaven. On top of that, she brought Sam a piece of heaven, too. She said:
"Anywhere is heaven as long as it's an anywhere with you."
Thank you, Kristen, for offering the reader a piece of heaven! Very highly recommended!
I absolutely fell in love with this author and am now slowly working my way through all her books. I hope when I am done, she has written a lot more so I am never without her books. I think the thing I like best about her story (and a few others I've now read before writing this review) is that the sex just fits into the story. The story isn't about the sex. It isn't so graphic you feel like you're in a porn movie, either. It's graphic just not overly so. The author doesn't slam it down your throat; it is a natural progression of the character's relationship. The characters and story plot are the highlight of the story.
Some might not like the super alpha male characteristics but since I'm married to one, I laughed a lot and read parts aloud to my husband. Sure he takes over. Sure he bosses. Sure he makes you want to smack him sometimes but always, behind each bossy order, there is a good reason. People aren't perfect but the desire to protect and keep safe is a perfect reason.
I recommend this author and her books. This story is breathtaking and so totally different - wow.
Kia is an abused wife but, when her cheating husband is offed by an incensed husband of one of his lovers, she is suddenly left with a life insurance payout she didn't expect. The cheating ex had taken out a massive life insurance on her and planned to kill her. Kia collects her unexpected windfall and takes herself off to Europe for some Kia-time.
Whilst by Lake Como, she meets Sampson Cooper, an ex-football star she has borderline internet stalked for years. She falls hard for him as he drags out all her secrets and feelings. They find out that the hit on Kia's life has not been called off and Sam morphs into all out protective alpha male.
Kia is falling in love with Sam, giving him everything but Sam is not reciprocating. He obviously cares for her but he is holding back his feelings and not sharing with her. Eventually this all comes to a head.
The book takes us on an emotional journey for both of them - Kia from an abused wreck of a woman with battered self-esteem to one who is ultimately able to call Sam on his emotional barriers and Sam from a man in denial of his deepest feelings to one that is eventually able to give everything he has to find his HEA.
As always, we have a beautiful epilogue - Kristen Ashley really does give good epilogue!! There are appearances, albeit small, of other KA heroes to satisfy the readers.
This was a really good story. I liked both Kia and Sam and their story was interesting kept me reading until the end.
Kia made a mistake in high school of choosing the wrong man. She got involved with and then married the high school football star that didn't make it anywhere (not even managing to graduate college) and made her suffer for a life gone wrong. Kia tried leaving him but never managed to stay away and paid dearly for every attempt. She lived in fear until the sheriff came to see her and tell her that her husband was dead, shot due to his own mis-deeds.
Sam is a very talented guy and got famous when he played college and then professional football. He loved his mom and his brother very much and did what he could to take care of them. When his brother was killed in the military, Sam left football to join the Army. He's since left the Army but is still rather famous even though he'd rather not be. Sam's dated a lot but never anyone that was real and made the cut in the end so he's still looking for his "one".
Kia's husband was cheating on her and his lover's husband was the one that killed him. Kia was rather shocked but had been a victim of her husband long enough that she was more relieved than upset about her husband's death. This feeling was reinforced when she found out about a large life insurance policy her husband had taken out on them both...her's for twice as much as his own. Soon she found out that he and his lover were planning to hire a hit man to kill her for the insurance money. Kia took a few months (around 5) to recover and find herself again and then decides to use her windfall to go to Europe.Read more ›
