Editorial Reviews

2013 release from the Greek/Australian singer, songwriter and guitarist. Heaven In This Hell is the follow up to her hit 2009 release, Believe. Orianthi is perhaps best known for being Michael Jackson's lead guitarist for his ill-fated This Is It concert series, and as the lead guitarist in Alice Cooper's live band. The album was recorded in Nashville and Hollywood.

I have been a fan of Orianthi for a few years now, So I was looking forward to this album for some time. Unlike the first album, this one feels more like a Orianthi album. Its not commercial as the first(or the last)album.
Some great guitar work on this album, The title song starts this album on a high note, allowing her to show more of a blues rock style that she is known for. Other songs like "You don't wanna know, Fire, frozen & filthy blues" continue this album in the same manner as the title song Heaven in this hell. The rest of the songs like If you think you know me, how do you sleep, how does that feel and rock, have a ballad/blues feel to them. Personally I like this album more than the last one (it still was a good record).
My Fav songs on this album are Heaven in this hell, fire, you don't wanna know, frozen and how does that feel.
Its good to see Orianthi playing and coming out with a album that represents her musical influence, best of luck to her, and hope to see her live soon.

This is my first venture into Orianthi's music -- I was aware of her but decided to check out her new album after reading a feature in Guitar World. The production is nice and beefy without being too polished and most of the solos have a Stevie Ray Vaughn kind of vibe to it. Her voice works well with the material also, and the opening track is one of the standouts of the album. The hints of R&B and country work well also, I just wish more of the album sounded like that opening track. I appreciate that the songwriting is very strong and that they aren't just vehicles for her to shred, but I cant help but feel that some of the material, while good is just a little bit restrained. I shouldn't have to wait for the fade out to hear her gorgeous soloing. I know this isn't a metal album and I didn't expect her to start shredding like Alex Skolnik or something, but the album could have been a bit more aggressive. Still, I would recommend this to any fans of bluesy rock n roll -- its definitely worth the purchase!

This is one of my favorite recent releases. I bought her 2nd CD because of Steve Vai guest-starring and some YouTube vids made it evident she can really play. And "Shut Up And Kiss Me" is a catchy tune.

I bought this one and it's even better. More mature, I think. The guitar tones are darker and moodier, smoky, somehow. The overall feel of the songs is almost like a country-blues thing, in tone if not style. The lyrics are still pop-ish but thankfully not vapid. I love "Rock" the best out of the songs, especially the melody of the lyrics in the chorus. Ori's vocals are beautiful in tone and I love her vocal style.

I wish more female players and vocalists would find success in the mainstream with songs like these.

Good album for a great guitar player. Was only disappointed by some of the more country sounding songs but blues and country are usually only separated by the addition of the twang. Bleh. Not the catchy pop that drew my attention but still worth owning and enjoying.

I ordered (2) copies of this album last week when it came out (got it from amazon within a day!) and have been listening to it non-stop ever since. While I knew Orianthi was a great guitarist, I think Heaven In This Hell proves she is a gifted songwriter and vocalist as well. The 11 track album includes the riff heavy title track "Heaven In This Hell" and closes with "If U Were Here With Me" a slightly more pop sounding rock ballad, which showcases a softer side to the guitarist. In between these songs, I was pleased to find a couple of bluesy, country cross-over sounding tracks " Rock" and "Another You" that feature solos that showcase her skills with out being over the top. "Filthy Blues" has a swampy blues vibe and you can definitely hear the Hendrix influence in her guitar and her raw vocal has a very "Benatar-esque" sound. Personally, I love the new sound and hope this is the direction she continues to go with her music. Heaven In This Hell is a delightful musical smorgasbord.

She is the female version of Jimmy Hendrix and a great artist to look at too. However, it seems she is searching for that music that will take her to the top. Her last CD was very good. This one is good also but not as good. She has talent that surpasses most artists of today (and even yesterday) and I'm sure she will find the genre that fits. Keep an eye on this artist ... she has plenty to offer.

This is the music Orianthi is suppose to be making given her cited influences such as Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Her previous albums seem to be made for the teen pop crowd, this one on the otherhand is for those who appreciate no nonsense blues based rock and roll.
Her guitar playing virtuosity is not groundbreaking but nonetheless relects all the great rock guitarist of the previous generation. Great tone coming from her guitar and her singing is a right fit for these songs.
Worth the buy if you're into guitar driven, blues based rock.
