That being said, I am a huge fan of apocalyptic stories. Have read hundreds. This one ranks up there with my favorites. I got attached to the characters and yes, the story jumped from timeline to timeline but it didn't detract from it in my opinion. It had a certain flow to it. Plenty of action and interaction between characters.
I hope that the story continues, I want to see what happens next. And I hope others will give it a chance and not base their decision on a couple of bad reviews.
I read all mine books, but if course with work and cooking and dogwalking, I had to keep stopping. Well, the story stayed with me and on my mind during those breaks.
Not once did I have to go back and refresh myself about what's going on. For me, that's a sign of strong characters and a solid storyline.
The story is so exciting at times that it made me sit up straight, tending as I was reading. Sometimes I had to take a break because I was getting too stressed. It was actually tiring for me to read.
I became so invested in the characters that I celebrated their wins and mourned their losses.
The whole story is well written and it had me on the edge of the seat (so to speak) for the whole reading.
I find that when a long series is all together like this one, and so entertaining, that it seems to end to quickly.
But it was not a short read by any means. I recommend this to all and sundry.
I will say the ending was very nicely done, with just enough questions to make you want to read the next book. I appreciate that he tied up all major loose ends--some authors don't do that and I avoid them like the plague. So, thank you for a satisfying ending.

There were multiple characters, each pertinent to the story and made for a more interesting tale as a whole. I will admit that I had favourites - Marilyn for sure. While others weren't as good due to the sameness of the scenes - Marcus and the constant soldier thing.
The plot wasn't original from the distaster point of view and the villains were cliched. However, it was still thought-provoking and definitely highlighted disgusting human behaviour...do they really deserve to be saved?
Overall, a good read.
Reading these books you become so invested not just the fact that the world has been turned upside down but in the family of the main.characters. It's very well written and anyone.Reading it will thoroughly enjoy.it. Each.book making.you excited for the next .
I would recommend to anyone who loves this genre.
