"Heavy-duty bungee-cord net for securing gear on motorcycle, ATV, snowmobile or bike"--I would use this on a bicycle, but not a motorized vehicle of any sort. It's fine, as I said, but nothing about it is "heavy duty" and no way would I trust it on a motorcycle.
"4.5mm multi-strand rubber cord with abrasion resistant nylon jacket; 15 x 15" stretches to 30 x 30"--This net is NOT 15 inches. It's about 12 inches on a side when not being stretched. I don't know how to accurately measure how large it gets when stretched, but it does just about double in size to 24 inches.
"Six 2-1/2" ABS hooks, rust-proof, non-scratch; easy to remove & re-attach for best fit"--This is plainly false. They are wire hooks with rubber jackets over them. They are most certainly NOT ABS plastic. They are about 1.5 inches or 4 centimeters, NOT 2-1/2 inches as described. The opening of the hoks is about 3/4 inch wide. They are removable/movable--so much so that they might slip off if there is no tension on the net holding them in place. They may or may not be rust-proof (no idea what kind of metal they are as there is no accurate description to tell me), but the ends of them are exposed, so if they turn out not to be rust proof, they are going to rust right away.
"Net & hooks roll into ball about size of baseball for easy stowing - weighs just 7 oz"--This claim is actually accurate. Not sure about the weight, but it seems about right.
"Interwoven cross-cords prevent slipping or gaps; 3" x 3" grid pattern, Black"--It's a 3-inch by 3-inch grid pattern. However, what's pictured is a grid of 5 squares by 5 squares (which would be 15 inches by 15 inches). Mine is actually 4 squares across by 4 squares down; a total of (4 x 3 inches) x (4 x 3 inches), or 12 inches by 12 inches.
Overall, if you want it for a bicycle, it will work just fine and dandy. You just won't get the item pictured and described on Amazon. You get what I've described here instead.
So if you have a need for a large stretching net, this one is the one, if you need a small one, look for another.
Update 6/25/12. I have taken this on a 5 hour trip to ohio and back and I have now have deemed this completely useless. It honestly can't hold anything. It has stretched over 30 inches now and has lost all of its bungeeness in the main net part. It cant even hold my light weight motorcycle helmet. It always slides to the side. I do not trust it with anything I have. I used ratcheting straps to secure my stuff down then threw this on top of it to "hold" everything together. That is about all it's good for. I went and bought my own bungee cords and made my own for 12 bucks and its 15x better than this.
I was disappointed to see that the plastic hooks don't have the tip molded in but rather there are rubber-like caps on the end that can come off. I actually have another cargo net much like this one with metal hooks but that model too has the rubber-like caps on the end and they come off all too easily. I bought this one thinking it would be better - it's not.
Don't get me wrong. This is functional and can do the job. I was just hoping for more.
