I give this game 5 stars because it's so much different than the others games today. I really wish more games were like this. I will not give any spoilers, but this game had me on edge almost through the entire game. Every decision you make will have a huge impact on just how this great game can turn out. If you're a fan of anticipation games, suspense, slight horror, action, pretty much every type of genre, then this game here is the game for you. This was an experience that I have not forgotten, and do to the decision making in this game, you can play it more than once and just go about doing it a different way around this time. I've officially played this games story twice and looking foward to playing it a couple of more times to see what happens if a make even the smallest decision differently. To end this review, basically thus game is by far one of my favorite games of all time, on any and all systems I've played...and I've played many. ;) GET THIS GAME, YOU'LL LOVE IT!

I liked this game a lot. The story that it tells is one of the best that I have seen in recent years. However, be warned. This game IS one huge quick time event. There is almost no game play to speak of. Also, the game seems to be lacking in re-playability. Other than these two minor points, it is a good game.

I was very excited when I got a chance to play this game (I loved "Indigo Prophecy", and heard good things about this game). The expectations was quickly shattered. The story is good, and it's still a good game, but there are a lot of issues with it. The controls are terrible, it feels like all the characters have something up their a*s. The control prompts for some reason are white (rather than color coded), so it takes time before you figure out what it wants you to press. Most of the time you don't even know what you press/choose, because the choices are moving around, or not visible at all. And don't even ask me about Sixaxis prompts, because half the time they don't even trigger; and I'm not playing games to flail around like a monkey, I just want to drop on the sofa, and move as little as possible while enjoying some video games. There is a lot of situations that should be emotional, but the "acting" is so bland that it's not possible to do that. It's really hard to get into them, and feels more like "press <button-name> to continue". Think it would have worked better just as a movie. It got more fun at the end, when I stopped caring about any of them, and doing some things which should lead them to death, at least at that point the story got more interesting/real. If you have nothing better to do play it, but if you had to choose a single video game I would suggest to rather go with the "Indigo Prophecy" (much easier to get into characters, and at least it feels like your choices are making a difference).

"Heavy Rain" is probably the first of its kind in terms of modern video games. It's "interactive storytelling," which means that the game isn't played like a typical role playing game or shooter. Instead, you're guided by choices, which are often performed through Quick-Time Events (here on out referred to as "QTEs.") It has an excellent story, gorgeous graphics and a truly innovative form of game play. But there's one MAJOR thing wrong with it...

...the voice acting. The voice acting is absolutely horrendous. The characters, all of whom are very interesting and in depth, are voiced by the most incompetent actors I've ever heard in my life. They make the voice actors from the original 1996 "Resident Evil" sound like Oscar-worthy performances-- if you don't know what I'm referring to, go look up videos of the cut-scenes from 1996's "Resident Evil: Director's Cut." If you think those voice actors are terrible, they are GODS compared to the voice actors for "Heavy Rain." That is my only complaint about this game in general-- everything else is pure brilliance.

Let's talk a little bit about the story, but without giving too much away. You play four different characters, in what I've referred to before as "Rashomon format." It's the same story told from several (in this case four) different perspectives. The story plays out like a suspenseful thriller movie, along the lines of "Se7en." There's a serial killer called "the Origami Killer," who uses extended periods of rain to drown his victims in ditches in an undisclosed area somewhere near Manhattan-- they're all young boys, with whom he leaves behind an origami figure and cryptic notes to the boys' fathers.

After playing the demo, I thought this was a game I would like. But boy was I wrong...I LOVE it. I'm fairly new to gaming but because I'm finding this and others which are similar, I am encouraged to continue on. I always thought that you had to enjoy zombies and first person shooter games if you want to play but one more time I was wrong. Yes it's true that finding games like this one can be challenging but it's soooo worth it. I also bought Episode 1, The Taxidermist. More please.
