A hard book to read

If you are searching for a detailed look into the life of Himmler and his actions during the war, this is probably the most detailed account you will find. And while the authors have done an excellent job of doing just that, they also bring in the other cast of characters that played important roles at this time as well. However, the jumping around between people and time frames often left me confused. It took a long time to read this book,trying to piece together the vast amount of info as well as the different people's actual roles. It certainly isn't the first book I've read about these people but really one of the most difficult . The subject matter, the author's own opinion, and the back and forth of time with the coming and going of certain people makes this not a book to be taken lightly. I'm glad I read it but it is not any easy read.

The book gives a history of the events. I was hoping for more insight into the mentality of the Nazis. In that I was disappointed. I would recommend this book to someone who is familiar with the history and wants some more information.

I'm visiting Germany this summer and so I'm reading about different people and things especially from WWII & the Third Reich. Very good book about Himmler and all of the things that went on in his life from a youth till his death by cyanide after being captured. Some crazy stuff in this book.

The book was very informative and I learned much about what went on during WWII. It points out the extreme inhumanity that man can be. Sadly this is still true and difficult to understand how mankind can often be so cruel. Manvell is just a little wordy for my taste however.
