The Kingdom is in turmoil, war and political issues are the root of the problems, but with the King soon needing an heir to take the throne the King's three sons are potential heirs, though they each lead a very different life. As the story progresses we get to know the three princes better as they each live their own life.
The story itself is great though quite complex. I think there are eight POV if I remember correctly, and while it does sound like a lot it is written well enough that it is easy to follow the complex story. The plot is engaging and intriguing, With an exciting ending for this installment I'm eager to read The End of All Things which is the final portion of this three part installment of Book one of the Kinsman Chronicles.
Once again, Jill Williamson, one of your books has swept me away from the safety and security of my comfy reading chair and left me stranded in the middle of your storyworld—an epic land full of woes, magic, and intrigue. Once again, one of your books has left me hopelessly entangled in the lives of strangers, who suddenly seem less like strangers and more like close traveling companions … maybe even friends. Once again, you leave me waiting upon the edge of a cliff with bated breath … determined to find out what happens next.
And so, I would like to lodge a complaint. This book is far too fantastic for my own good. And by good, I mean my emotional state, healthy levels of caffeine intake, and physical well-being after a good night’s sleep. All of which have suffered thanks to this book.
And Part Three is yet to come!
This is wizardry.
But seriously, fantasy fans, read this book … and then you too can be just like me! :)
All that said, I still really enjoyed the book and would recommend it. The story is still a good epic. If you read and enjoyed the first book in this series, you're probably going to want to read this one, too. I'm still looking forward to the next book in the series, and you probably will, too.
I am really enjoying this series quite a bit; it's fun, interesting, light reading fantasy and I eagerly look forward to book 3 in April.
