Helen of Troy was a very good story. Helen and Rudy fought like cats and dogs but loved each other more than life itself. When Garland moves back to Troy things take a dramatic turn. He thinks that Rudy is being abusive to Helen so he kidnaps her. He does not believe it when she tries to tell him that it is just the way her and Rudy always have been. It did not help that Rudy had kissed one of Helen's very best friends at the town's party either. But an unfortunate tragedy leaves a child without a mother and Helen wants to adopt her. Rudy does not respond the way Helen wanted and there is where the big, big fight started..
There is something in Garland's past that makes him not trust that Rudy won't hurt Helen. Someone that he loved was hurt and he could not forgive his self for what happened to her. Helen looked so much like her that Garland called her by the wrong name on several times.
The whole town is snowbound and splits in two. One side for Rudy and the other for Helen. There is snowball fights and a few fist fights and of course Garland's sister, Cassandra, who is not a very likeable person to start with.
This book kept me hooked from the start and was a quick read. It kept me wondering what was going to happen between Garland and Helen and when the librarian moved in with Rudy what would happen with them. Could Helen and Rudy's love endure all the gossip and all the things they said to each other. Will things work out in the end?
Tess Collins has a way of writing that just keeps you wanting more even after the story ends. The settings in her stories are wonderful and she makes you feel like you are right there with everyone and with everything going on. I gave this one a 5 star rating and it was well deserved. I can't wait for the next book that will be out next year. Tess Collins is definitely one of my very favorite authors...
What a wonderful book! Helen and Rudy have been married a while and always fought. They love each other very much, the fighting is just the way they are. A man named Garland moves back to town after being gone a long time and he sees some of the fight and thinks that Helen is being abused. He kidnaps her and takes her across the street to his store to ‘protect’ her. She cannot convince him that the fight was her fault. The whole town is taking sides some on her side and some on Rudy’s side. There’s a snowball fight and mostly all in good fun. I enjoyed the characters of Helen, Rudy, Garland, Cassandra and others. Great story Mrs Collins!
While I could relate to the locations and some of the characters, there were places I thought the characters were not believable in their responses to this situation.
I had a hard time imagining a town in a snowball fight over Helen. I have an even harder time imagining Rudy taking Helen back after what all she has done. I had a hard time figuring out who to root for in this story because Helen was the one who caused all the trouble.
All in all it was an okay read. I have purchased another book by Ms. Collins, just to see if it is any better. Good weekend read, but not on my list to read again.

PS This is one of those books I'll be reading again, just because . . .
While Garland tried or thought he was rescuing Helen from some sort of abuse he did not realize that Helen was the person responsible for the items that had been thrown. He had good intentions but we all know what happens when we have good intentions. But Garland intentions seemed to turn to something different and he wanted more.
This story is set in the Appalachian Mountain's area with a lot of redneck people (yes, I can say redneck since I live near the area).
Helen is the average person that is taking care of everyone but no one is taking care of her.
I enjoyed the mythology part of the book. I believe it helped to give the book a better more developed plot.
