Veterans of the psychobilly scene, Demented Are Go have contributed plenty of quality releases and performances to their extremely appreciative fans (of which I am one myself), and this latest release is no exception! There appear to be some new faces in the line up, but Sparky and crew have certainly lost none of their edge on Hellbilly Storm. "Pedigree Scum," a dark, raunchy B-movie punk stomp, is the perfect opening number. Next comes "the Noose (That Snapped)," which brings the listener back to much more familiar Demented territory, as it is more typical of the band's sound; however, this does not diminish it in any way, as it is a great psychobilly number done in a way that only this band can. "Hellbilly Storm" is perhaps the quintessential Demented stomper, living up to its name in every way possible-- the lyrics are incredibly twisted, as is the hillbilly-from-hell music and Sparky's trademark vocal delivery. Although most of the songs showcase the band's unique brand of psychobilly, this album finds the band expanding their musical territory a bit more than usual. As always, the strong punk rock elements and over-the-top ghoulish flavor has always set Demented Are Go apart from many of their peers in the scene (as well as given them a more universal appeal, particularly among punks and goths); however, Hellbilly Storm features a number of tracks that are more horror punk/deathrock than psychobilly. These include "Pedigree Scum," "Out of Control," "Destruction Boy," and "Demon Seed," and though this is nothing extremely new for the band, the frequency of these kinds of songs show that they've found effective ways to expand their sound. They've also included "Doin' Me In," a 60's garage punk style song, and "When Death Rides a Horse," a more straight-forward country/rockabilly ballad.Read more ›

This is some excellent raunchy stuff these guys are putting out. One of DAG's better full studio albums. Sparky's vocals jump out at you in keeping with his old out of control self again. Every track is full of energy. The hard rockin' bandmanship is outrageously great! Notable tracks are:

Hellbilly Storm

Out Of Control

Block Up

Demon Seed

Someone's out To Get Me.
