Hellbound: Seriously, was this a 95 minute hallucination or one of the greatest B horror movies ever? Sid could go on forever about all the things that made this movie perfect in every way, but we will try to keep it reasonable. We decided on this one after watching what Chuck could do to a foe in a horror movie in the classic Silent Rage. In our review of that one, we begged Chuck to do a sequel. Little did we know that we didn't need one, as Hellbound more than made up for the absence of Silent Rage 2: Ramon's Revenge.

The film starts in the Middle Ages with some Crusaders burying the demon in a stone casket and locking it with daggers. The demon is played by the same actor as the bad guy in "The Final Sacrifice," or "Rowsdower!" as it was titled in its North Pole release. Anyway, flash forward to 1951 and two homeless men somehow find the tomb. Instead of leaving it alone, they pull the daggers out so they can sell the stones on the handles. Even as it was happening, you knew it was a bad move. Of course, the demon pops out of the tomb like he was Sid jumping out of a stocking and goes nuts. Flash forward again to "Chicago Present Day" where Chuck is a hardass cop. This is especially illustrated when a street tough mouths off to Chuck and Norris naturally punches the guy 10 feet into the air onto a parked car. O yeah, the street tough was the one, the only Iceman! That's right, THE Iceman. As in "The Iceman has melted. Two more and I'm coming for you, Vachs." From Death Ring. The reaction by Sid was one of hillarity, excitment and sheer amazement all rolled into one.

Good enough action vehicle for Norris as an inner-city cop who must do battle (along with his palpable partner, portrayed by Calvin Levels) with an ancient demon who has decided to traverse the grounds of Chicago after being freed from his unholy crypt. What makes all of this madness fun is that "Hellbound" is not truly a horror movie (now honestly, can you see Norris starring in "The Amityville Horror"? Don't answer that...) but instead a genuinely good action picture with a stranger than strange supernatural story as the backdrop. If anyone can kick Satan's ass, it is surely Chuck Norris! Goodies to look out for here include the luscious Zoe Trilling (get an eyeful of her!) playing a brief role as a prostitute in a super sexy bikini, and the eerily low-toned growls of main villain Christopher Neame (who understands, oddly enough, the movie's playful sensibilities), along with Norris's typically energetic fighting skills and choreography. The swansong of Cannon Films may not be much to think about on the level of its plot, but it is a lot of fun if you are into action movies that don't desire a long wait to propel viewers forward into the chaos. ( Chuck Norris, and Calvin Level's ) Kick butt as they battle resurrected demon Prosatanos ( Christopher Neame ) who was released from his prison/tomb by idiots breaking into the tomb looking for treasure. It all began a few hundred years ago when Prosatanos kidnapped the kings child to use as a Satanic sacrafice, the king and his soldiers track him down battling the demon and his minions. Now in the modern era is set lose upon the world once again the demon is looking for the descendant of the king who imprisoned him all those years ago

Now it is up to the two American caps to track down find and stop the demon which leads them on a trip to Isreal in their search, This is an action packed creepy and has some gore supernatural thriller, the actors give outstanding performances realistically portraying their characters. The fight scenes are awesome, the eyes on the demon are eee creepy, but I love this film

*** This review is NOT for the Chuck Norris film, nor the HELLRAISER sequel! This is for a different movie altogether! Unfortunately, AMAZON continues to lump titles together for no apparent reason! *** HELLBOUND is about a woman who uses black magic to raise the dead, in hopes of ultimately bringing her sister back from the grave. Unfortunately for everyone involved, things work too well! Filled w/ a thick, heavy atmosphere of utter doom, HELLBOUND takes tales like THE MONKEY'S PAW to a level of darkness I've rarely seen in any movie. Yes, the dead walk, but these re-animated corpses are actually terrifying! Wondrous stuff! Also available on DECREPIT CRYPT OF NIGHTMARES...
