I have read two books in this series, and the beginning each time unsettled me as I have to grasp with the heroes’s turn of mind. This time though it was a bit easier.
I had just to check with the previous book as it was set at a different time. Amusing for a time travel story. And yes, the action takes place 10 years after the end of the last story.
So the last time I read about Simon, he was in between a man and a boy. Now he is a full grown man. His mission is to retrieve the woman who has filled his thoughts during the last ten years from a gruesome fate. He has finally found a mean to get to her.
But he is a very angry man. Determined to save her life but after that to wash his hands of her. His younger self then his older too never thought she could have had issues which could have prevented her to come back to him. So he believed once he offers her a different future, he has repaid in some sort what he owes her.
Simon is a man who can hold a grudge for a long time, he can’t let go of the past, is it because he sees the deceased, yet what ever are his circumstances, he has never been able to close the door of his past. Thus it also closes his heart to a future with someone else, so angry he is at all those who left him, blind to the others he has found on his path afterward.
Emma is from a different time, a different period where life was even harsher if you were not born in the right place. Which was alas not her case. Each day is a battle, even worse if you were a woman and different. She never had someone to help or tutor her, so it is her, all alone who deals with her cursed gift. She could have turned it to her advantage and profit from her ability to travel into time, but never did she used it to her gain. Why she tried, and tried again to reach for the boy who saw her, really saw her. But when she was able to find to him again, he was no more a boy but a man, a man who seemed to have her long forgotten as he was warming someone else bed.
Their relationship as adults is one of angst as Simon is unable to forgive her for not coming back when she is not guilty of his reproaches. She is just an emotional outlet he uses to keep others at arm-length, if no one breaks into his armor once more, he won’t hurt be again. When Emma all along longed for their reunion. Ready for more, but rejected again and again.
I would have slapped Simon many times for throwing tantrums like a spoiled child, deaf and blind that Emma was little more than a child when they meet, so not really controlling her talent.
A bit of groveling would have been nice from his side.
It was fun to see again the other members of the league, older, more poised.
𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 onscreen lovemaking scenes.
This novel combines the romanticism of the Victorian Era with Paranormal elements of time travel and being able to see ghosts.
Simon🐺🍆⛲👻 is the illegitimate son of a nobleman, and he has grown up in the streets of the slums of St. Giles, London, as an orphan. He discovers early he is a pickpocket extraordinaire, among other things.
Eventually he is contacted by the Duke of Ashcroft and adopted into his ever expanding family of people with Paranormal abilities. Simon is treated as a brother to the Duke and educated. He sees ghosts, and also realized he has the undeveloped gift of time travel!
Emma 💃💋is a time traveler who has remained independent of the Duke's influence. She steals a stone from the Duke that she needs to travel back to her own time of very early 19th century. Simon🐺🍆⛲👻 follows her, even though he's not sure how he will get back, because of his inexperience.
The first part of the book was somewhat confusing to me, even though I have read all of the previous books📚 in this series. The books are stand alone, but best read in order.

Emma met him when he was about thirteen. They couldn't speak, she was not that good at using her time traveling skills yet.
Simon had found her to save her life but he didn't want anything else to do with her. This well-written novel caught you in its grip and kept you interested enough to keep reading and the amazing characters keep you coming back. The fighting and banter between Simon and Emma show their distrust of each other. There is someone lurking in Emma's background. No one knows who it is or what he wants. It does get steamy and should be for those over eighteen. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I received this ARC from Book Sirens and voluntarily reviewed it.
