Editorial Reviews

From the Artist

I wanted to create a piece that appealed to me, not what I thought other people would want. Spent too many years doing THAT! I love standards and Jazz, but regular Cabaret material I find sometimes stale and boring and oh so, "done". I have always loved a varitey of music especially rock and pop from the 70's so I thought, "What the hell, I'll put some of that in there too." And I did and I think it's kinda fun. In the midst of performing standards I slip in a tune from a familiar, yet different time. I love it when people get that look on their face like they know the song, but not sure how. Memories come back and usually a smile and before they even can name the tune, they are mouthing the lyrics. It's cathartic for all and fun. If it isn't fun, then why do it? That's what I'm sayin' here.

About the Artist

Meta grew up in a military family and traveled all over the world. Music was her best friend that traveled everywhere with her; a constant. Her eclectic taste in music follows her into performance, as well as her debut CD. She attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles and for nearly 14 years recorded for songwriters and performed in nightclubs and theaters in the LA area. After loosing her home in the '94 earthquake, she relocated to Austin, Texas. Her offbeat comedy blended with true vocal talent, make her an artist fun to watch and engaging to listen to.

Meta has a wonderfully trained and flexible voice with none of the standard Cabaret cheese that can make one crawl. Her voice deftly alternates between very sweet and mega powerful. The classics aren't stodgy and her renditions are very soothing. I found myself keeping this CD in heavy rotation for making dinner, eating dinner and relaxing by the fire. Now I will definitely keep an eye out to see her live!

Meta Rosen's warm and welcoming voice brought some classic songs to new life. At turns vibrant and conversational, Ms. Rosen shared her own delight in these old standards. I was surprised that I knew all the words to the songs - or maybe it was Meta's easy familiarity with the tunes - Anyway, I can't stop singing along when she really gets going.

What fun! Meta belts out the best and sultriest songs from previous decades with this CD. I can't determine how she decided what to sing. Her criteria for tunes seems to be toe-tapping potential or piano siren smokiness. I think she just went for those favorites, the ones we all love to sing to (Unfortunately, most of us can only dream that we sound as good as Ms. Rosen.) Her voice is both wonderful and marvelously familiar - like your best friend just dropped by to cheer you up with a few great, old songs.

This is without question, Meta's best CD to date! She is funny, heart-warming, witty, and that voice: It can be playful and mysterious, and then in the next second, powerful and in your face. A smoothly rich voice to cuddle you, then knock your socks off! Each track she makes her own, & once you hear it done Meta's way, there is no going back. "If I Were a Bell", is especially meaningful to me. It just makes me want more, more, MORE!
