Editorial Reviews

Following his 2006 RIAA Gold-certified record, See the Morning, Chris Tomlin's fifth studio release, Hello Love, communicates what he describes as the need to introduce ourselves to love again. Produced by Ed Cash (Steven Curtis Chapman, Amy Grant, Bebo Norman), the record endeavors to give voice to the Church to worship their Creator. Songs including Love, God of This City, Sing, Sing, Sing, and I Will Rise, are already impacting worshippers across the globe, as Tomlin debuts his new music on Passion's first ever world tour. The project's first single Jesus Messiah is finding a home among American listeners as well, receiving more adds its debut week than any other single in Christian radio history. It's no wonder that Tomlin continues to be the most-sung artist in churches around the world.

Does this installment meet the expectations of prior blockbusters from Chris Tomlin? As of this writing, Chris' latest album sits atop of the Christian Contemporary Music chart sales on this site. So far the majority of reviews are also overwhelmingly positive. I respect the integrity of my fellow reviewers to give them the benefit of a doubt that they are being honest and not giving five stars simply because he is Chris Tomlin.

Being someone who felt that Arriving is his best album to date, that See The Morning(the follow-up album to Arriving) was actually a notch down from its predecessor, and who was not nearly as excited about his concert style as most everyone else was, I certainly was not going to give an automatic five stars. In fact, I do not even like some of his more popular songs all that much(i.e. Made To Worship, Wonderful Maker, Forever).

I think a helpful test when listening to this album is to ask the question, "Do these songs sound like a rehash of previous albums?" Answer: I did NOT get this feeling in the least. I for one do not want Chris to change his style.

It is very hard to pick a best track on this disc, as they are all very well done. My personal favorites are God Of This City, Love, and Praise The Father, Praise The Son. While there may not be a song from this CD that becomes as globally acclaimed as the incomparable How Great Is Our God, or draws someone into a splendid adoration of God like Holy Is The Lord, or personalizes the intimate sufficiency of Jesus like Enough, the tracks on Hello Love share this common trait with them: they are simple but beautiful to the ear. That is the vintage aspect of this CD, but do not misunderstand: the songs are definitely different.

I just received and listened to this album today on my way to school and it is awesome. It includes the hit radio single "Jesus Messiah", but oh, this is just the start! Love with the Children's choir has to be my favorite along with God of This City and All The Way my Savior Leads Me. I like the fact that Chris Tomlin put another hymn arrangement on this record, but I only wish there were more like it in the future! Amazing Grace-My Chains Are Gone was probably his defining song of his life, even though he would attest, it wasn't his song, neither John Newtons. It was God's inspired message. You really see how passionate Chris Tomlin is in his music about sharing as much as he can about the Glory of God, His Majesty and his blessed son, Jesus, who gave up His life for us all to live happy, fufilling lives for His Will and Purpose. If you think this album is kinda soft, think again! He really keeps the tempo and guitars flowing through more than a couple or tracks. It is one of those albums that will be sad when it ends. It's that addictive!

Chris's best album to date in my opinion is "Arriving" and "Hello Love" is the 2nd best. I've grown more fond of it through the years. It's like a fine wine, getting better over time. There isn't a bad song on it. Five years later, it's still a regular in my playlist. It's got fast songs (Sing, Sing, Sing and You Lifted Me Out), medium tempo songs (Hello Love, My Deliverer), an anthem (Jesus Messiah) and the requisite worship ballads (Exalted, All The Way). A little something for all!

I enjoy Christian Rock - this was too sappy for me. Not enough talent. I still have the CD, but I skip the tracks when they come up on shuffle. I prefer Steven Curtis Chapman. His style, mood and talent are much higher quality.

"I WILL RISE" is the best song and the favorite of so many close to me. This is my most played CD. Someone very close to me loved and sang this song. He passed away due to pancreatic cancer in just 2 months after being diagnosed. Of course, I WILL RISE was song at his funeral. I had to have the CD.

This is a great CD! All of his songs are really well written and great for daily worship time and just to cause one to think about God and meditate on what an awesome thing He's done for us. I highly recommend anything by Tomlin, Matt Redman and Paul Balosche.

Chris Tomlin, if you don't know is contemporary to almost rock religious and some down to earth but still you'll love it. Went to a concert and couldn't believe the light show and performance in general...absolutely terrific. Get your heart going and your soul and your feet hands and every other part of you. No one was sitting down the whole time. I just had to check out most all his CDs. you should too.

What can you say about a Chris Tomlin CD? Hello Love was his usual great praise and worship work. I loved every song on it! I highly recommend it. I can't wait to buy his newest CD. Tomlin definitely has a gift for expressing what's in every Christian's heart.
