I have loved the Hellraiser series since I was a small child. Bloodline being one of my favorites. If you haven’t watched this yet, your missing out.

I did not know what to think when I heard this was released. Considering a hell raiser is definitely in my top favorite horror series ever! I have to say that the fact that they have changed pinhead twice along with the fact part 9 the first pin head that was different after Doug Bradley left was chest so lack luster along with that God? Awful film. I was very hesitant to see this. However, I saw the trailer for this and then I started reading the reviews and they were actually pretty positive in the 5 and 4 star section. So I decided I would give it a chance. I must say this is much better than I ever thought it would be a. I went in with not very high hopes. I know that this will be the word is is that they made it only to keep the rights to the hellraiser series. Because before revelations was made they had started production on a theatrical film. Which was supposed to be a remake slash reboot of the series and because nobody could agree on how to proceed with it cancel that, which, if you go on youtube, you can see the trailer of what they shot, which was awesome. And, as I said, revelations was awful.

I will say I like the province right off the bat with it being dark and almost in the same manner of which the original stories were like, even going back to the book. That after the first kill it was not sent her not a commercial horror movie style death. It was straight over the top in a good good way, a 7th layer of hell punishment type death sequence I also like that so far with the beginning I don't want to give a lot of the story away. That its people that deserve to go to hell that are being punished. Pedophiles? People who enjoy killing etc. and when they get what they deserve. It makes the deaths from the first2 movies seem very pg it's very graphic and definitely probably did not get an r rating on its first review. I don't think that the unrated rating is a gimmick to me. That would be a problem that would definitely have gotten an NC 17, right off the bat.

The cenobites are awesome in this every think whoever decided to change them up, made some of them very interesting, looking somebody commented and said they look cheap. Maybe so, but I think some. The hardest change to give her a different visual aspect. I also really enjoyed the new character. The antiterror. I preferred the guy who played pinhead in this movie much better than the guy that was in the last movie. I would be very satisfied if they kept him. For further sequels if they were going to continue on with the direct to digital slash blue ray DVD.

The one thing I was going to also comment on as I saw somebody say they thought it was a little CSI ish. I don't know if I agree with that 100 percent if you seen any of the other sequels especially part 5 aka inferno that one is more CSI. Or should I say NYPD Blue. Oh yeah and also starts at least one if not 2 of the actors from that shell. That he was about 2 officers one dirty or not to open the box and was. A cop who was dealing with pinhead et cetera and I thought that one definitely was more cop Duran et cetera, I think that because it is about a police officers solving a case as a minor back story, it's being compared to something on TV. It's really not. I thought that was a weak comparison.

Another thing I like is that Heather Langenkamp from nightmare on street, is in this. Talk about core movie icon and legend. Especially from one movie series to another iconic series. That made my day considering on Amazon Instant video. The information leads you to believe either. Ashley lol. Clare Higgins. That some of those characters from the first2 are gonna be in this one at least as a came out here in. But when she turned it on see the credits you see the Amazon has it listed wrong only under the digital video version if you click the DVD or bluray the cast is correct even in the x ray on the digital video where the trivia slash cast information is it's incorrect

Overall. I do really like this movie. I give him 4 out of 5 stars for an 8 and a 10. I gave a bar, an a minus of all the sequels. I would probably place this. At the halfway point in my favorites. Number one, 2, 6, 7, 4 and then this.

Full disclosure. I am an avid Clive Barker and Hellraiser fan. I am also a writer and a director, so this review may seem different than most. I respect Art and Artists alike. I know the frustrations and pain of getting projects off the ground, especially if that project is a passion project. That being said. Let's face the facts. This movie was made in order to keep the rights to the Hellraiser franchise.

Over the last year or so we heard of it's development, under the writing and direction of Tunnencliff (sp), and have heard that it was originally written as a Hellraiser film. (although there are articles and the Kickstarter trailer out there, which the creator said were made after he was was told by the studio suits that his initial Hellraiser Judgment script was rejected that show otherwise.) He supposedly removed the Hellraiser portions of the film and tried to make a film with his new characters as a standalone film simply called "Judgment." Somehow, things changed and Hellraiser: Judgment was back on. Ah, those studio heads!!!
While this is all fine and good, here lies the first issue. You should not be able to remove "Hellraiser aspects" from a film and have it stand as it's own identity. If you are making a film involved with any extensive mythos, that mythos must serve as connective tissue for the whole....this was my initial thought before even viewing Hellraiser: Judgement.

Upon seeing the film, I must admit my reaction is a mixed bag. Right off the bat we are given a prologue scene where they explain how the rules have changed, and the Lemarchand box is now seemingly obsolete in this post modern world. (the box, however, is still a vulitsl tool in the third act however?) Pretty gutsy and ballsy statement for sure. The question lingered, however, if the rest of the film would back that statement up.

I get that there are different Orders in Hell. I think it is a great idea. Barker explores this in Scarlet Gospels. To have the Hell Priest and the cenobites confined to a small room where they sit and wallow for the majority of the film while the other beings take center stage with their "jobs", well...it kinda pissed me off and seemed sloppy in the exposition sense. Why would the cenobies just step aside? Why did they lose their mojo? And so forth. I kept waiting for the cenobites to say "screw this" and play in the game, regain their place in the drama of the film, and take back the franchise. ALAS, that never happens, until the last five or so minutes where they, along with the new order, confront the angel who guarded Eden. Not quite the showdown I was hoping for, and among different players than I had expected, but I did not write the script or direct the film so they made the choices they wanted to make.

The defeated and bored nature of the cenobites was my biggest issue with the film itself, although I will say I admired the new denizens of Hell, and their factory production line way of processing souls. I would have been content with these characters alone in a standalone movie.

The post credits scene alludes to a potential sequel, with Mormon missionaries no less lol, but will the sequel (if ever written), explore more of these new characters, and potentially even less on the Hellraiser and cenobite mythos? Because that's where it looks like it's heading.

The rules to the game have changed. That's well and good. The motivations of the change, and subsequent character reactions towards that change was completely and sadly lacking.

What would have been gutsy, ballsy, and possibly revolutionize the series would have been if the creators of this film focused on the behind the scenes workings inside of this Hellish enterprise of soul collecting. I would have gushed over that type of story, and I think many of the fans would have as well.

Instead, we are served with another detective story, which has become the staple of the last several films; not interesting, boring and completely void of any suspense as I knew immediately who the serial killer was. (Please, enough of these rehashed story points). Been there and done that too many times.

On the positive side of things, the cinematography and art direction was excellent. This is a very good looking picture at times. The actors each gave good, committed performances to their respective roles. The gore and erotic elements were there times a thousand, and perfectly added to the overall tone the filmmakers were going for.

It was apparent that those who made the film really do care. Was it perfect? No. Did they make the most out of their meager budget and time constraints? I think they did.

The fundamental faults lie not with the direction, but with the script itself. As a writer, it shames me to say that. The seeds were all there for a low budget, really interesting story that could have delivered in spades. Those creative seeds, however, never took root.

If the Studio heads realized the potential they have with a proper Hellraiser film, not a Hellraiser/Detective hybrid, there are loads of fans and people out there eagerly awaiting to embrace it. That's the true shame of it all. It looks like either the Studio is too afraid to back a full fledged "Hellraiser" film in this overtly politically correct age, or they simply do not care.

Read a few of the other reviews and I think I disagree with a lot of them. I thoroughly enjoyed this film. There are some stomach-churning moments but no what you might think- no spoilers but less to do with the gore than 'the process of finding the guilty'. Good storyline, made sense, good casting, not sure why Heather Langenkamp gets such a big billing, she's only in one scene and hardly recognizable. The guy playing Pinhead did a good job- Doug Bradley is a hard act to follow and there are similarities in his performance. I think this film holds up on its own, certainly had me squirming at times.
