From the manufacturer
Launched in the early 1970s, Helly Hansen's LIFA is based on yarn technology that has been tested and developed over the years. The key functions of LIFA deliver both moisture management and insulation, moving moisture away from the skin, while transporting perspiration to the surface of the fabric, where it evaporates.
LIFA is a hydrophobic fiber that prohibits the absorption of liquid. The LIFA fibers are used on the first membrane layer of base layer garments, the layer nearest to the skin. That is why layering is so important- moisture will be pushed to the next layer. This enables the consumer to stay warm, dry and comfortable.
HH LIFA Is an ultra-light weight base layer fabric that works perfectly in the autumn and winter. HH LIFA delivers light insulation and moisture management through its 100% single layer LIFA fibers. The LIFA technology works best when layered under another garment, as the more garments you wear, the further the sweat and moisture will be transported out of the fabric and away from your skin.
The original technical Helly Hansen base layer. An iconic design with the classic stripe along the sleeve. This long-sleeve base layer top for men provides moisture management during aerobic activities and is ideal for climbing, skiing, sailing, and sports training. Comfortable and functional as an insulating layer for everyday use, this base layer features cuffs and a regular fit. The HHDry construction with 100% lifa is a quick-dry, extremely breathable, and super-lightweight high-performance base layer. Continually perfected over the last 40 years, lifa stay dry technology is the unique ingredient of all Helly Hansen base layers.
Sporting sharp stripes down the sleeves, this classic, long-sleeve base layer is designed for all sports and for use in all seasons. Made with polypropylene, the shirt features Lifa Stay Dry Technology that moves moisture away from your skin, faster and more effectively than other fabrics. It's been rated one of the best base-layer fabrics by consumer tests worldwide. The shirt offers an athletic fit along with low-bulk cuffs and flat-lock stitching for greater comfort.
This product features Helly Hansen's HH Dry technology--a three-layer system that stays dry next to your skin, keeping you comfortable during highly aerobic activities in a wide range of conditions.

Aside from the fit I would have still given it 5 stars if it weren't for the ridged stripes along the arms. I'm not sure what, if any, purpose they server but I found them unnecessary and unsightly.
Originally, I purchased a bunch of base layer garments for road cycling in the fall. I find myself using them for other activities, such as cutting the grass when a sweatshirt alone will not do the trick.
I would buy them again and recommend them for any activity where its important to stay warm when wet. One big plus is after it drys from sweating It doesn't smell like body odor like a cotton shirt does. Great for overnight kayaking trips.
