Editorial Reviews
Review
“The legendary, provocative photographer gets a gorgeous TASCHEN tome dedicated to his career. A re-released edition, this time revised by the Helmut Newton Foundation, is brilliant.” ― i-D
"This amazing collection of images perfectly reflects his attitude." ― Harpers Bazaar
“A Gun For Hire, named for what Helmut Newton once called himself, includes some of his best editorial work for fashion houses from Biba in the 1960s to Thierry Mugler and Versace campaigns in the 1980s and 1990s, as well as Newton’s last work for Vogue.” ― Vogue
“Hasn’t just about everyone tried to copy Newton, but only the ‘master’ himself managed to handle sex and elegance in such a casual, yet cool and calculated way.” ― Stern

It is worth noting that there are none of his famous black and white nudes or portraits in this book and that it is essentially a collection of Newton's catalogues, campaigns and editorials from the 80s right up to the early 2000s. This book is a much-needed companion and spiritual sequel to Newton's earlier book, Pages From The Glossies which documents his extensive editorial work from the late 50s to 1998. Gun For Hire fills in the blanks left by that book by presenting both his later advertising and editorial work including his last published images for both US Vogue and Vogue Italia in 2004.
I can't recommend it enough, a real treat for anyone interested in Helmut Newton 'The Commercial Fashion Photographer'.
Newton is one of those photographers whose intense images and reputation can overshadow the actual brilliance of what's important...the photographs. If you are mostly familiar with his black and white photography, the colors in this book will take your breath away.
Don't be shy, this book will make you appreciate what a true talent Newton was without shocking you.
