I have Plakcy's next book in the series already downloaded and I'm looking forward to reading it.
Steve Levitan works in the public relations office of the college he once attended in his hometown. Levitan is also on parole for hacking, so his computer wizardry is either on hold or on the sneak, depending on the motivation of the moment. When a college board member dies in a suspicious manner, Levitan cannot resist helping his police detective best friend, Rick, work on the case. Rochester contributes his two-paws worth by nosing out clues and . . . but that would be giving away the book.
Plakcy does not write in the dog's point of view. He stays firmly in Levitan's first person POV, though sometimes the protagonist wonders what the dog is thinking or trying to point out. It is obvious that Plakcy knows Goldens and is fond of them. By the end of the first novel in the series, I, too, was enamored by Rochester, Levitan's big, somewhat trained dog.
I recommend this book, and the two earlier novels, for lovers of animal-based mysteries.
