"She'd accused him of being reckless, but maybe he just couldn't help himself. If someone needed help he was going to help. He was a hero—with tattoos and rough edges."
--What’s Going On-- As the humans continue to fight against the Gizzida, Cam fights her attraction to Hemi. Cam grew up with parents in a toxic relationship and to Cam, love is fleeting and not something she's destined for. She doesn't trust that Hemi will always be there for her or love her forever. Hemi grew up with a large and boisterous family and he wants Cam to be a part of that family. He might be a Berserker and he might dive into dangerous situations but he's all about protecting those who need it.
--What I Liked and Didn’t Liked-- The Writing and Plot -- I always enjoy Anna Hackett's writing and her stories, but this one was particularity good and reminded me all over again why I love the Hell Squad series so much! The war against the Gizzida continues but the humans aren't giving up and they've even decided it's time for a closer look at one of the alien creatures. The pacing was really spot on in this book and I read it in just a few hours because I couldn't put the book down.
The Characters and Romance -- I absolutely loved Hemi and had no idea I needed the berserkers in my life this badly; I can't wait to read about the others! But back to Hemi...he was so confident, charming, and cocky in the best possible way. He's wanted Cam for a long time and he's determined to have her no matter how fast she runs. I loved that Hemi was so sure about his feelings toward Cam and he never doubted that she was the perfect match for him. Cam had a lot more trouble accepting that something with Hemi could last but that didn't stop her from falling for him, she just refused to acknowledge what everyone else already knew. One thing I really enjoyed about Hemi and Cam's relationship were all the moments that make a romance a romance. Hemi was always holding her hand, giving her little kisses and lingering touches. All the little things that make you really believe two people truly care for each other.
This is part of a series and might be a little confusing if it is read as a stand-alone. This story provides closer looks at some of the characters that have only been briefly mentioned in previous books. Unlike previous stories in the series with fast paced action from the first page to the last, this book has shorter bursts of exciting action spread throughout the story. The two main characters are both strong and interesting people who have a very steamy romance (not overly explicit or descriptive). The secondary characters provide humor and enhance the story. I highly recommend this story and the rest of the series for anyone who enjoys sci-fi romance with a HEA (Happily Ever After) in each book.
There's nothing I love more than an adventure with a crazy-romantic hero and a kick-a** heroine (plus their pals). "Hemi" has it all! Hemi Rahia, from Squad 3 (the Berserkers), is big, broad, bearded, brave, and bold. His mission: annihilate gizzida, make Camryn McNab his. Cam is tall, tough, tantalizing and terrible at relationships. Watching Hemi batter down her barriers - awesome! In the meantime those gizzida are up to some really gross, scary experiments. You must see the Berserkers in action, it's incredible! Enjoy...I certainly did!
Can and Hemi story picks up on new years. Time for celebration and to complete the promise made in last story. Overall, fun read that went way to quick. Cam did not make it easy, but wasn't stupid either. Hemi showed fearlessness and we gained some insight to squad three. I do have one worry about overall plot, there are a lot of twists and turns, but the original story line with the actual protagonist are disappearing and it is concerning to think that the next story will be another warped creature discovered with massive battle then story ends. Hopefully, Ash's story will have more snippets of what the aliens planning and intents are, to maybe start giving hints as to who is actually coordinating the aliens. Right it just seems to be an army without leaders.
I don't think I've ever read 13 books in a series. I was not disappointed, not even for a page of this great addition to the HS series. I don't post spoilers, but I can say, Cam is one of my favorite female characters. The chemistry between her, her team, and, ahem, Hemi, highlights the central idea of the series - there is always hope, there is always love.
Do not miss this one, because you'll be sad later. No, really, you'll go back and think "How did I miss this one?". Jut do it.
Not many authors can pull off a lengthy series. Anna Hackett does! She progressed the story line, the characters, the challenges, and the world building! I totally love it. Her lead people are not simply retelling of previously presented characters. Hemi for example is a surprise and a pleasant one at that! I also love that she continues to progress the stories of the previous characters highlighted in earlier books. Very cool!!! I recommend the whole series!!
The book was fantastic and has so much action as all the previous ones. Love how all the awesome characters come together as a large family, caring for one another, sharing their hope, dreams, and fighting to defeat the aliens. Very highly recommended series and keep them coming?
