Except for a few in the fourth chapter, the selection of poems compiled for this collection, were authored after the 1988 massacre of political prisoners at Gohar-Dasht and Evin prisons. Because of my good photographic memory the poems were usually passed on to me to memorize as they were being authored. After receiving a poem, I would go to the lavatory and first memorize the words, which usually went easily and quickly. Then, I would silently recite the words from memory several times trying to also incorporate the proper emotions and feelings. Finally, before destroying the original writing for security reasons, I would try to register a picture of the poem in my mind by staring at it. The sense of duty that I felt for the preservation of the prison poetry helped me greatly not to forget them during imprisonment.
