ZWILLING Flatware is produced from high quality 18/10" steel. The dinner and steak knives are forged for superior cutting precision. All ZWILLING flatware is produced in compliance with strict quality standards. All surfaces and edges are carefully polished. The heavy gauge and substantial sizing result in a perfect balance of feeling and quality in hand. ZWILLING Flatware is dishwasher safe.
Heavy enough for everyday use and elegant enough for company, this flatware suits any occasion and then goes into the dishwasher. It's made of durable 18/10 stainless steel, polished to a mirror finish. Substantial length (9-inch knives), width, and heft qualify it as European size--the kind of flatware that might be found in an upscale bistro. This Opus pattern features fork and spoon handles that turn up slightly at their ends and knife handles that curve to the right, contributing a contemporary look. The 45 pieces break down into complete table settings for 8 plus a 5-piece "hostess" set of serving pieces. A single setting consists of knife, fork, soupspoon, salad fork, and teaspoon. The hostess set consists of 6-inch sugar spoon, 7-inch butter knife, 8-1/2-inch serving fork, 8-1/4-inch serving spoon, and 8-1/4-inch pierced serving spoon. Properly cared for, this flatware should last a lifetime and beyond. --Fred Brack

I like the simple and elegant design of this flatware. Because of the J.A. Henckels name attached to them, I found myself looking at details on them I probably would not have otherwise.
The packaging is decent. Most pieces are all individually wrapped in plastic, then each similar grouping is held together by a rubber band. Those pieces survived shipping just fine. However, the front five pieces on display are tied directly up against cardboard with twist ties. This causes them to be slightly loose and jiggle which caused a noticeable amount of minor scratches on their backsides already. Probably not a big deal though considering those sides will be placed on a variety of surfaces over their lifetime and get the same, if not more, amount of scratching. But receiving them in that condition was slightly disappointing.
Also, I had one of the larger soup spoons that did not have its edge finished properly which creates a "rough" feeling against skin. Specifically the edge on the end of the spoon that might be placed on the mouth making it even more noticeable. This speaks to unacceptable quality control when it comes to the J.A. Henckels name. I've sent them an e-mail asking how to replace it and I'm sure they will assist me.
Lastly, a very ridiculous nitpick on the quality. The tips of the knives are all just slightly different. Almost imperceptible, but if they are all placed side by side, one is able to discern a very slight discrepancy on how each was finished. Some are a bit more angular, while others are a bit more rounded. Each is different and not standardized. Again, if you don't place them directly side by side and stare at them analytically, you'd never notice. I just thought it worth mentioning to clarify if someone is shopping online and wanted some details to consider for price vs quality choices.
That all said, this set is about $100 and most people will probably only shower you with compliments on your choice to buy these.
But why in the world do the ends of the forks and spoons have to fall through the slots on every dishwasher I've tried? It's quite an annoying oversight. (For some reason I feel morally obligated to make the ends point down. It hurts me not to be able to do so.)
Brb, looking for something to put at the bottom of the dishwasher silverware slots. -1 star for making me do this.
-Clean, classy look. Knife shape adds visual interest to the simplicity of the set
-recieved many compliments from guests who never notice things like spoons and forks (such as father-in-law lol)
-Knives are sharp compared to other brands we have tried
-Feel very sturdy but not too heavy. Spoon didn't bend when we scooped rock solid ice-cream with it if that says anything to you
-They are kind of on the smaller/shorter end. The serving spoon looks like a regular spoon and the length between the larger and smaller fork for example is very similar. You can tell the difference when they are next to each other obviously but when I am washing them I keep thinking they are all the smaller fork. Not a big deal just a little frustrating when washing dishes late at night after your guests leave.
With all that said, they are keepers!
